On a neon the cam sensor is located at the drivers side of the engine on the end of the head. it mounts directly over the end of the front camshaft. it is about 3 inches wide and about 2 and a half inches tall. its made of black plastic and has a wire conector in the back of it. these very comonly leak oil so be careful of the o ring and cleaning the mounting surface.

Recently changed this sensor on my 2004 sxt. Kind of a pain for someone that typically does oil/ brakes/ etc...

Ran great but does leak a little oil. Mot enough for me to go back in, however.

Po420 code on an 2001 dodge neon

The code means the catalytic converter is not functioning as it should, sometimes because the engine is not reaching operating temp, and sometimes because of a fuel problem.
You may need to hook it up to a scanner and watch the sensor readings to diagnose the problem.

SCAN VECHICLE WITH CODE SCANNER FOR FAULTY CAMSHAFT SENSOR OR FAULTY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. THEY WILL CAUSE NO SPARK PROBLEMS.

CODE PO 340 SENSOR CIRCUIT CAMSHAFT MALFUNCTION

This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.I hope this helps you

the computer may need to be reflashed. if it is running then it is not a bad sensor. either of those being bad would cause it not to run.

2005 Dodge Neon: Hard codes say it is the camshaft now what do i do?

Your going to have to replace the camshaft sensor, the sensor may be going bad or the wire where it comes over the rear of the engine may be chaffing at the valve cover causing the lose of the signal to the ECM.
I believe the Camshaft sensor is on the left side of the engine at the back of the cylinder head.
Good luck and hope this helps, it takes about 30 to replace with simple tools.

Cam Shaft Sensor Problems

Had the same problem before on my 04 Neon SXT...camshaft sensor is on left side of engine block, take out the battery and to the left of it (face car) is the camshaft position sensor. To change it you'll have to move a few hoses but its plan to see there on the left side of the engine...pretty easy remove and replace. Fixed my problem of car not going above 2k RPM when i replaced the sensor.
