Question about 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera
My girls 89 cutlas cierra overheated a few times and boild out over flow. i changed thermostat and it now idles fine but in drive and reverse it desils and cuts off. has something else been bunrt up from the heat? what should i check next?
The overheating could be caused by a broken fan. The motor and the fan are two seperate pieces. When the engine heats up the fan comes on automatically. (keep your fingers out of the way) If the engine gets too hot and the fan does not come on, it could be electrical or a bad fan. If the fan makes noise but you don't see it turning, the motor could be bad or the plastic fan could be broken. Turn off and let the engine cool. See if the fan is attached to the motor. If the fan rotates freely it is probably attached to the motor. If it just wobles around, it is broken. Aftermarket fans are under $100.00. Original more like $200.00.
