Need to know how to sweep or reset gas guage needle

I had the same make and model do this to me the other day. I had to remove the cover around the cluster and remove the clear lens, then move the needle around by hand. Then put is back together. It fixed it but what a pain.

My gas hand is stuck below the little peg. how

I guess this happens alot with these cars. Take the wood trim off the dash and expost the front of the guage cluster. just drill a small hole in the bottom front and use a zip tie to nudge the needle back up where it should be. Dont worry you cant break anything.

Replaced the alternator now gas guage is stuck behind peg

The only thing you can try is to remove the instrument cluster and remove the plastic cover to
move the needle, it happen because the ignition was on when you reconnected the battery

Gas guage is stuck so far ahead of the full mark it is in the spedometer

you have an open circuit from the sending unit to the dash, may be the sending unit itself, disconnect the wire to the sending unit and ground it with a test light, the fuel guage should slowly creep to empty,

Fuel gauge problem

sending unit on the fuel pump in the tank is stuck, and needs to be replaced. its expensive, but that will fix your issue. its the housing around the pump that has the float arm on it. you can try to free the float arm by removing your pump assembly, but cant guarantee its any good after being stuck

1998 Chev Malibu; Fuel Guage shows Empty.

Hello: Thanks for the follow up. Yes I did fix it. Somehow the needle had slipped over the rest pin
on the guage face, so it rested down in the bottom of the guage. When power was applied it came
up but was now stuck UNDER the rest pin at the EMPTY mark. I got a suitable piece of wire, and
manouvered it through the Odometer reset shaft hole, and carefully worked the needle back on TOP
of the rest pin......Problem solved. I have leared that this happens quite frequently to these Malibus.

Thanks again,
Bill.
