Sounds like a live wire short. Check all cabling from fuse, motor and switch.look for open or damaged cable insulation.
Remove wire harnass from switch and fuelpump and see if fuse still blows, then definite short. If not connect switch only and see if fuse is still intact If so connect fuelpump. If fuse blows then defenitly pump
yor fuel pump is more likely to be defective and this can checked by connecting a mulitimeter and checking the current draw on operation should not exceed 3 amps

- Check your current draw on the fuel pump it should be not more 3 amps as the pump will cause the fuse to blow.

BMW 316 Compact. 2000 reg. Engine M43TU. Carried out decoke. Reassembled. Car started/ idled well but accelaration problems when I took it for a spin round the block. Possibly Timing slightly out. On return/parking car wouldn't start again. Engine turns by hand. Cluster lights very dim when ignition switched on. Charged battery. Still the same. As if something draining battery. Suspect starter motor??. Any suggestions/pointers please?

when the airflow meter goes on my bmw does any light come on the dashboard to signal the problem or it just wont give enough power output like mine is doing, coz on the motorway it wont go over 60m/hr when on an going uphill and then it goes on level road up to 90. sometimes it feels as if its cutting out on fuel or some plugs atre not firing well but i recently had it fully serviced.

My E28 520i (1981 Malaysia, Kjetronic injection system) have cold start & engine **** problem during acceleration & hill climb. I've changed ignition cable, fuel pump, fuel regulator, fuel damper, fuel injector nozzles (refurbishd units) cold start valves, fuel pipes (from divider to manifold) idling valve. I have also serviced Throttle body, and fuel divider to no avail. Help me out neddymd@yahoo.com
