There are a few little things that can be done first before big money is spent.
1st. Verify that the car is running hot by checking the water temp with an thermometer in the water to make sure it's not getting a false reading
2nd Verify thermostat is working correctly.
3rd have your radiator flushed out to remove any possible obstructions.
replace the radiator if there is still not enough flow after the flush

Cooling light stays on all the time

Depending on the car,, there can be an issue w the coolant level sensor, coolant temp sensor, coolant low or electrical. If its running hot, ck coolant, fans, level etc. Have the ecm scanned for codes to give u a head start. A bad thermostat is a slim poss. too. Scan it first to ck sensors readings & ck fluid levels

Will changing the battery in a 2009 chevy traverse cause a overheating problem?

the thermostat is staying closed possible or a leak in the system have you checked the lines and water pump or radiator but nothing related to the battery

My 2005 chevy silverado 5.3 liter is overheating. it runs at about 250 from 0-45. once i get past 45 and get some airflow it cools right down. i though my thermostat was stuck but shouldnt it stay hot at...

this sounds like low coolant level,or air in the system, you said the fans work they should cool it down just like the air flowing through it, this tells me the coolant flow is not good until higher rpms, try reving the motor and see if it cools down without movig if it does then its a flow problem maybe tstat not opening all the way or borken, the waterpump empeller rotted,or low coolant,i would also flush the system out if its not clean, ive seen a few of these that use dexcool coolant get pretty nasty from lack of coolant flushes, start by checking the level then a t- stat, hope this helps.

Running hot at higher speeds.(6 cyl) Does not have a full shroud around radiator. Does it require one?

The shroud around the radiator fan mainly assists cooling at lower road speeds - it increases the efficiency of the cooling fan/s.
At higher road speeds the increased airflow due to vehicle speed makes the fan and shroud less important in that circumstance.

Running hot at higher roadspeeds can be caused by either engine mechanical fault (blown headgasket etc) or defective cooling system:-
Check for combustion gas bubbles in coolant reservoir - and ensure engine has no other mechanical running problems.

Check cooling system as follows:-
1) Faulty thermostat,
2) Blocked radiator air flow due obstruction such as grasshoppers or other insects,
3) Blocked radiator core (internal) by sludge/scale etc.
4) Collapsing radiator hose on intake side of waterpump (due to softened hose),
5) Cooling system not properly filled with coolant due air locks in the system - bleed off any air (as manufacturer specifies) during re-fill with coolant and ensure flow to heater core is enabled.

1992 grand Caravan 3.3 with 2 small coolant fans at radiator. Coolant fan will not work. Hot wired electrics and it worked fine. Replaced temp sending unit next to radiator hose at intake manifold....

There's a myriad of things to cause this. You need a wiring diagram, a hayne's manual,a test light, & good electrcal knowledge to find the problem.

ENGINE COOLANT FAN NOT CUTTING IN

On my 2001 Focus Zetec 2.0L, the radiator fan only worked with the air conditioning turned on (as in no low speed - engine would overheat while idling or in traffic, but was fine as long as the A/C was on). The fix was to replace the radiator fan resistor assembly located in the fan shroud between the fans.

1998 aurora

I have had this problem with my 98 aurora and have replaced all the same components. Temp gauge routinely shows 200 on highway (Fine) but in the city in stop and go will get to around 245. I installed a switch to manually turn on the cooling fans by connecting the ground to pin 86 in the relay for the fan(s). Otherwise the fans will not turn on to 245. This fix works but would like to know an actual solution.
