Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
THE CAR OVERHEATED LAST WINTER. WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED. AFTER IT SAT ALL WINTER. AFTER CAR WAS FIXWD RAN FOR 2 DAYS. THE THIRD DAY STARTED LOOSING POWER ABOVE 50MPH LIKE OXYGEN SENSORS WERE GOING BAD. THAT NIGHT TRIED TO LEAVE AND THERE WAS NO POWER LIKE O2S WERE BAD. DROVE FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES AT 10-15MPH BACK FIRED A COUPLE TIMES AND THEN POWERED UP. 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD A HUGE BANG AND THE MUFFLER BLEW APART AFTER THE CATALATIC CONVERTER. DROVE 15 MILES HOME. NEXT DAY CLAMPED MUFFLER BACK TOGETHER. STILL HAD NO POWER LOTS OF SPUDDERING AND BACKFIRING. CODES SAID MISFIRE ON 2. CRANK SHAFT, CAM SHAFT, PRIMARY O2, AND A FEW OTHERS. RPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND WOIRE HARNESS. RAN GREAT FOR 100 YRDS AND BACK TO SAME PROBLEM. IF LEFT TO IDLE WITHOUT MAF SENSOR. CAR WILL CONTINUE TO IDLE. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR A 10 MPH. IT RUNS BUT WHEN COMING TO A STIO AND YOU LET OFF THE GAS IT STALLS OUT AND WILL START UP RIGHT AWAY. PLEASE HELP THIS COSTING ME MY MARRIAGE AND JOB AND WE HAVE 4 CHILDREN. I CANT GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER FROM ANYONE
First check all wires for any thing loose.
The muffler blowing up leads me to think the engine is so far out of time the PCM cant correct it.
REally you need to get it to a good mechanic.
