Where is the starter fuse and relay on 1990 Mazda Miata?

I was changing the main 80A fuse and there was a spark. Now nothing happens when I turn the key.

I think they're both in the same box as the main 80A fuse. I replaced my main fuse a while ago and while doing it caused a brief short, spark flew. But I got lucky because after replacing it everything worked.
Get a Haynes service manual, it will help.

First off it won't turn over without pressing the clutch in. If all fuses are good and you have a good battery and you hear a click it is possible the starter or it could be the ECU. I just replaced a ECU in my 1990 miata because it only would fire the sparkplugs after releasing the ign. switch and then ALL plugs would fire at the same time.

Check your diagnostics in case they can reveal something...

If you're driving an American model WITH a check engine light on the dash, put a paper clip between terminal 10 and GND in your diagnostic box (right side of the engine bay near the air intake - has a big DIAGNOSTIC written on it). Then hop into your car, turn the key to ON (but don't start the engine). The light should go on steady - then off for 4 seconds. After this any diagnostic codes will be displayed. Long flashes are for the first digit in a two digit code - short flashes are the second digit. There will be a 4 second pause between each code AND the codes will repeat. If you get codes, record them and post them and I'll see what I can suggest.

Otherwise, check your spark plugs and wires - replace them if necessary - check the coil packs and the connections thoroughly. Poor or no ignition is most likely your problem.

Also check your air intake, filter and check and clean your throttle body.

I'm betting you'll find an issue in the ignition system though.

Hope this helps,
Sherwin

I'm working on my Mazda Miata and didn't realize I had the fuse box to the left under the hood unplugged and tried to start the car. As a result the car will not start and I'm not sure where to start.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

Yes, you are correct, disconnecting the fuse box has broken the pairing between the key and the immobilizer system. Did you remove the main connection plugs to the fuse box? My thought is that those connectors have never been removed since the car was built and breaking a remaking the connection, you might have some connections that as not as good as they should be. Pull the connectors again and give them a good spray with electrical contact cleaner (that is NOT WD40). Then reconnect.

There is various ideas on resetting the Immobilizer here.

Miata fuse box - 80a now welded into the fuse block - HELP!

Pel, the 80 amp main is bolted into the fuse block. Disconnect battery, metric 10 socket removes the block by the 2 bolts on the engine side, same size bolts on both side of the block, remove them both have ring connectors, be sure to reconnect them when putting back together. I did this same thing last monday during a hail and rain storm.

The main fuse blew. Look in your fuse box for a big fuse it should be labeled main or master fuse. Replace this fuse and vehicle should work everything but maybe the starting issues. You have a short somewhere. If the fuse blows again or the car won't start repost the problem

1995 mazda miata no electrical power, nothing works

Most often the main 80 amp fuse is blown - happens when someone slips with a socket extension when trying to remove the battery terminals. Fuse is under the hood, passenger side and here's a diagram: http://www.mellens.net/mazda/Mazda-Miata-1997/fuses.pdf

I own a 1997 Mazda Miata MX-5, and have power in the "run" key position, but when i turn all the way to start the engine, nothing happens. I have 11.7 VDC from the battery so it is charged.

Sounds like the starter relay or the solenoid is on the start itself is badSome of the MX-5 also had a fuse for the ignition, check that also.

1990 Mazda miata will not start

check that there is a good connection from the earth to body (a lot of electrical problems are earth related) also that the connections on the battery are firm. check that the battery has good voltage.
