I would check the spark plug wires. If the problem just came out of nowhere, good chance plug wire or wires is at fault. Another symptom pointing towards plug wires would be if it doesn't always do it especially when it's warming up or hasn't come up to operating temp. It will seem to run O.K. but once the vehicle engine warms to oper. temp. the problem will happen. If I am wrong let me know and we can check other things. Good luck

I have a 2000 Olds intrigue it set up for about 6 years. Now it will start and run strong but struggles to drive. I have changed plugs, fuel filter, checked map sensor did coolant change,...

I don't understand runs strong, but struggles to drive? Do you mean it revs easily in nuetral or park but is sluggish accellerating in drive or in gear? Try putting air in all the tires. Also, make sure the brakes aren't seized. Jack up the car and see if the wheels spin freely to check if the brakes are engauged.

Hope it helps. Good luck.

Code 14 is coolant temp sensor too high, and code 15 is too low.
Code 13 is usually a problem with the O2 sensor.
I would want to make sure the coolant system is full of liquid and has no air bubbles. Then check the wiring harness from the temp sensor back to the computer.
You may also want to take a look at the idle air control valve and the throttle body. Most common issues with stalling are a faulty control valve or a dirty throttle body.

Replace first, the fuel filter if this has not already been done. You may have a plugged filter, and these are very inexpensive. If this does not resolve the issue, locate the MAS (mass airflow sensor) located between the throttle body and the air filter housing. Start the car and let it idle normally; with a screwdriver handle or other such small tool, tap the mass airflow sensor (small black unit; will have a wiring harness hooked to the side of it); if the car dies, stalls, hesitates; first purchase MAS cleaner at the local auto parts dealer - specifically ask for Mass Airlflow Sensor Cleaner. It will should cost between 7-12 bucks - but you wont need the whole can - however, when using it: (if the car does not die, stall or hesitate and the idle stays the same, than the sensor is not bad) If it does however:
1. Remove the MAS (disconnect wiring harness) you may need to pull the top end of the air filter housing off.
2. Spray inside the sensor generously from both ends ensuring it's entirety is sprayed. Let stand for 15 minutes to airdry.
3. Re-install the sensor and start car. If there is still no improvement and the car hesistates, 1. Ensure the air filter as well is in good repair, and that there is nothing causing any air flow restriction between the airfilter and the throttle body.
4. If the airfilter is good, and there are no restrictions to air flow, consider replacing the MAS, however if you can get the car to the auto parts dealer, or to a technician (who may charge; auto parts dealers usually don't) have them run a diagnostics test on the car.
5. At this point, if cleaning the sensor has made no improvement, and the car stays idling, does not hesitate when tapping the sensor, the air filter is good, the fuel filter is good - then the next step is to replace the fuel pump.

mfoster93,

Answer these questions to determine power loss while driving:

1. Do you hear any pinging or knocking? A bent rod will cause loss of power. ( should be able to hear wihtout strain)

2. Have you changed the fuel filter/airl filter recently? A plugged (dirty) fuel filter will cause this, as well as a plugged (dirty) air filter. Change both if needed.

3. Injected? On a full tank run one can of SeaFoam in the tank - first, pull vacuum lines and run through lines for about 20 seconds (will have to put hose in can, and manually rev the engine to keep from dying). Pour rest of contents into tank (full tank) and drive.

4. If you use Pemium fuel, use up what you can (if possible) and switch to regular (or vise versa). Some vehicles don't run well, if at all with Premium fuel.

5. Upon changing fuel filter, make sure all air lines, fuel lines and vacuum lines are not kinked, or have holes in them.

6. If none of the above make a difference, start the truck and locate the MAS (mass air flow sensor) which is between the intake and the air filter. (black); lightly tap on the top of the MAS with a screwdriver handle or a wrench. If the truck stalls (hesitates, stutters) or dies, then it needs replaced. Before replacing however, go to the local parts dealer and purchase a can of MAS cleaner. It is safe for sensors and will clean the sensor inside (honey come inside like a catalytic converter).

Sometimes the MAS is dirty and the sensor isn't able to read the air intake causing it to mix the air and fuel incorrectly. This is a cheap and affective fix for the problem you're having.

If this does not work, try first options above, and this should cure the issue. If not, you may have a timing issue. If you have access to, or own a timing light, use it to determie timing placement is correct. Also, make sure that two of the spark plug wires have not been misplaced. Though it idles fine it will not make too much of a difference at idle but will while driving. I've experienced this first and, and thus I mention it.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Here is a tip to get you started. Check with your local parts dealer and find out what the cheapest fix is, and work your way up. 99% of the time it's the simplist components that cause the biggest issues.

Cordially,

check the o2 sensor if thats not it something maybe blocking your intake and if thats not it then it could have something to do with the computer (ecu) check the cables that connect to the ecu cause my moms cadillac had the same problem so just disconnect the ecu plug it back up

Car shakes a little and stalls

Possible cause for your problem is a bad Catalytic Converter Once they heat up, if they are mostly clogged, they will cause sluggishness, and stalling. If you notice a sulphur smelling exhaust or a lot of heat coming from the middle of the car, these are also indicators of a bad catalytic converter.

Hi. I would try changing the fuel filter. If its partially plugged up you could be starving for gas and that can make your emmission sensors give bad readings. Cant gurentee it, but it would be a place to start.
