Question about Volkswagen Jetta

My 87 VW Jetta Diesel recently started what feels sliding

My 87 VW Jetta Diesel recently started what feels like sliding left or right but mostly left in the steering when driving. Both front hubs recently replaced and front aligned but no improvement. It does not feel like alignment but occurs every so often, very pronounced and worse with faster speeds. It is not leaking any fluid. It is hard to describe but as if steering is momentarily disconnected and slides or slips several inches one way or the other like if you were driving in a strong gusty cross wind. the steering wheel moves slightly and my reaction is to correct. Broken part in rack and pinion?

I'm pretty sure it is not either of those. When the hubs were replaced the front end was checked out pretty good. This happened all of a sudden. One day fine the next slip sliding away. At this point one hub had already been done and the other was done shortly after this problem began but no change.

I don't think so but will double check. Would that make a bunch of clunking noises when making a slow speed u turn when the steering wheel is turned hard/tight? I suspect the two problems are related.

Could be a worn rack and pinion, but first I would check the Ball joints and Tie rod ends. Hopefully it is one of those since they are much cheaper to replace.

    Perhaps a broken sway bar?

My 2002 vw jetta diesel tdi had a recent oil change and I just checked the oil and it is way high. If I drive it will it mess the car up? I have driven it already but I'm really worried.

If it is grossly overfilled it can damage the engine as well as **** oil into the air cleaner and then the engine, on a diesel this can cause a run away engine because a diesel will burn the oil like fuel.

My 1998 VW Jetta TDI (230,000 miles) recently developed cold starting problems. I replaced the glow plugs with no change in starting performance. The problem seemed to start when an oil change tech put...

sluggish/cold start "problems"with any VW group product can be put down,in a lot of cases,to dirty injector nozzles, use redexe/wynns injector cleaner at 1 can to 1/2 tank fuel and you will feel a difference.as for the oil,VW group, use 10/40 semi synthetic in ALL their engines.(except w12 0/40)using a thin oil would pass the rings/valve guides and cause a carbon buildup inside the chamber......try it and see.....

What is the torque for the rear wheel bearing nuts on 1991 vw jetta diesel

Temporarly torque the axle nut to 87 in.lb., while turning the brake drum by hand. Then loosen the nut slightly. Tighten the axle nut again, slowly and in small increments while turning the wheel, until the thrust washer can just barely be moved back and forth with a light push from the tip of a screwdriver.

This fuse is located in the dash fuse box. Upper fuse box, top row, 3rd from the left, a blue 15 amp fuse. On the recent models of the VW Transporter TDI Diesel for example, the Fuse is 3 from the right hand end. Same row, same box, same colour/rating.

OIl types for engine and transmission - 87 jetta

The engine oil specifications can be found on the top of the filler cap under your hood, as well as in the VW Owner's Manual under specifications. VW's produced from the late 1990's typically use 5W-30 motor oil, and in the 1980's they typically speced 10W-30 (API*,SL 10W-30) motor oil. Your car knows best, check those locations first.
