The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. To get at the fuel pump you have to remove part of the exhaust & lower the rear end.

The relay should be behind the driver side kick panel. when you turn the key on you should here the relay click after 1to 2 seconds. Not in the start position, just when the dash light come on.

I have a 1997 pontiac sunfire the fuel pump is not pumping gas i have changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter and it still dosent pump

Have you checked the 20 amp FP/INJ fuse and pump relay? It should be getting a 12 volt command signal from the ECU. See the circuit below. Check to see if the relay clicks when the key is first turned on. You can verify by probing the relay socket with a test light. To check the relay and ignition switch, follow procedures at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6022358-relay_check. If you're not sure about the relay itself, you can always swap it with another relay to see if the pump will kick on. You can also check for voltage at the pump connector with a test light. See diagram of your circuit below and picture of relay location. Please let me know if you have questions.

Need to find the location of the fuel pump relay on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am, not sure it is bad, but getting no fuel and would like to check before taking out the fuel pump.

The relay is in the fuse box under the hood. It's labeled under  the cover of the fuse box lid, it's a micro relay and i think it's #18 and the injector, fuel pump is #48. Double check that though, good luck and keep me posted.

Trans Sport 1998 fuel problem

What you just did is most of the test. Just check that there is power at the pump. If so, change it (don't forget the filter) Problem is common to most if not all electric pumps.

The fuel safety reset switch

Hello mwisterman11: I can help with your answer. GM does not use a inertia switch like Ford does. The fuel pump is controlled by a 20 amp fuel pump fuse, a fuel pump relay and the PCM. Look under the hood for the fuse box. Locate the fuse marked f/p-injr.This will be a yellow 20 amp.fuse. If it is ok locate the fuel pump relay in the same panel. Other then these two the fuel pump is controlled by the computer. If you crack a fuel line and turn the key on you should see fuel movement. Be sure to put a rag around the line to soak up the fuel. This will be a fire hazard.
