Question about 1999 Volkswagen Passat

99 vw passat sw 1.8t #3 cyl not firing. Compression good & even,replaced plugs #3 wet, fuel fouled. Replaced coil pack,still misses,all connections look good. Any suggestions?

Ihad the same problem.. its not the coils or anything like that.. and any reg mechanic wont know the prob unless they under vw.. u need to replace ur power output stage.. thats what cylinder 3 misfire is.. after i fixed it my car is good as new. i

I have a 99 passat 1.8t we took it to the shop tried a new plug and coil pack.. nothing.. the mechanic started checking all the way back to the ecu and he tried putting on a new icu ignition control unit.. and now it has no missfire with a new icu

Check fuel pressure if it is in normal cond. check the injector with woid light. If you had wet fuel fouled spark plug on 3th cyclinder that injector should stock open and dumping more fuel than it needs you may need replace the injector.

Miss fire cyclinder 1


How many miles on it ? I recommend doing a compression test on that cylinder if you haven't already done it ! Before you replaced all those parts did you check for spark ? Could have saved the expense ! You could have a burnt valve ! What did the spark plug look like ? The end that goes in the engine ! 2004 Sorento began with code P0305, cyl #5 misfire. Inspected and replaced plugs, wires, and coil pack on cyl #2. Repair shop told me cyl #5 injector bad so they replaced. Still has misfire.I suggeste


If you had code P0305, I don't know why they would have done anything to the #2 cylinder but if they have already replaced the plugs, wires and injector; here are a few more items to check:
1) Check connections from ECM. Look for any corrosions or bent/broken pins.
2) Check the fuel line pressure
3) Check the engine compression
4) And if the above are good, then you will probably have a defective ECM

No,4 plug not fireing changed plug wires.new coil.plug ran good for 100 miles then 4 stop again


You would need to figure out if it is a problem inside the cylinder or with something like the crank-cam sensor firing the coil. I would change the plug again to see if it works for a few days.
Could be a problem with the fuel injector or a vac leak if the plug is firing but no power from that cylinder.

My truck is missing on the forth and fifth


things that can cause it to miss.
fouled plug (checked)
bad wires(checked)
coil pack(checked)
ignition signal to coil pack( switch old coil pack to a working cylinder to make sure its good and you may find a possible short in the wiring to the coil pack) alternately check the voltage to the wires going to the coils make sure like colors have like voltages. im not too big into ford trucks but thats a good start for most vehicles
possibly injector stuck open and flooding cylinders
timing could be off

99 dodge caravan #4 cylinder misfires, i replaced spark plug wires and spark plugs. Scanner showed #4 still misfiring, could this be the coil?


It could very well be a bad coil pack,or you have low compression in that cylinder.If the compression is good then go with the coil pack,if not you may need a head gasket or an intake manifold gasket.

They may not be firing. I would check spark from coils. You may have a bad coil pack. Do check for any vacuum lines. You can go to autzone.com and register for full free online repair manual

2001 ford taurus p0301 and p0303


You are mis fireing on cyl 1 and 3 if you replaced plugs and wires and coil this is going to be a fuel injector issue or valve issue. See if you can swap the injectors with known good cyl. and see if it changes. Or have a shop do a fuel injector service on it to see if it helps. It may be to late for the fuel injector service.

92' Cavalier 2.2L 4 cyl. runs but has a miss coming from #4 cyl.


Matter not whether plug fires out of engine. Put it back in and clamp a timing ligh to it. If the light won't fire, you don't have enough spark to fire cylinder, hense miss.
