No, the o2 sensor and coil pack are not the same. The o2, or oxygen sensor, is mounted in the engine exhaust and produces a signal that the cars engine computer uses to calculate how much fuel to give to the engine. The coil pack is an ignition system part, it is what provides the voltage to make the spark plugs fire.

No, the O2 is in the exaust and measures exaust gas/ emmissions. The coil pack is what controls spark/has the plug wires on it. Good Luck

What are trouble codes P0135 and P0305

135 is an O2 heater problem. Most times it is the O2 sensor. some times the plug. 305 is a number 5 cylinder misfire. Could be a coil pack, plug wire, plug or the cylinder. My guess is the coil pack.

My 2001 Dodge Statues Coupe RT.has random mis fires. I have replaced bank 1 o2 sensors but it still mis fires as I give it gas to accelerate. Your thoughts? Steve

O2 sensors won't make misfires they only monitor air in the emissions if you have a random misfire it's most likely gonna be your coil pack or a cam pos sensor the cam sensor detects the location of the cam and tell the pcm and it tells the coil to fire your are getting O2 codes cause it detects unburned fuel it the exhaust

Hello I hope you can help. My "service engine soon" light came on.I had trouble codes p0136 and p0304. We cleared the codes and the light has remained off, but the vehicle still runs poorly.My...

What does that mean? Essentially the same as P0137, a P0136 code refers to the second oxygen sensor on Bank 1. The O2 oxygen sensor produces a voltage between .1 mV and .9 mV. The ECM monitors O2 sensor voltage and determines if exhaust is lean or rich. O2 sensor voltage is high when exhaust is rich and low when exhaust is lean. The ECM monitors this voltage and increases or decreases fuel injector pulsewidth according to engine fuel/air ratio. If the ECM detects low HO2Sensor voltage for an extended period, it will set P0136 Conditions required to set: HO2 sensor voltage is low for longer than 2 minutes (minutes depend on model of vehicle. Could be up to 4 minutes)
Symptoms There may be no visible symptoms to the driver. Poor fuel mileage, possible misfire, depending on O2 sensor position when sticking.
Causes A code P0136 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty O2 sensor leak in exhaust close to O2 sensor
  • Short to voltage on O2 signal circuit
  • Open in circuit resistance caused by corrosion in connector
Possible Solutions
  • Replace the second oxygen sensor on bank 1
  • Repair open or short in signal circuit
  • Clean corrosion from connector

A P0304 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #4.
Symptoms Symptoms may include:
  • the engine may be harder to start
  • the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
  • other symptoms may also be present
Causes A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer
Possible Solutions If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Replace the O2 sensor first and see if that helps clear the vehicle up some. Some times these codes will trigger other codes and these are the issues that you will get.

I have a 97 Ford Explorer AWD 8 cylinder. Check engine light comes on and I get code p303. Vehicle bucks at times, uses lots of gas. Believe it may be 02 censor, spark plugs and wires tested ok. Any Idea

code says #3 cylinder misfire, check the coil pack for this cylinder to see if its got spark, bad o2 sensor will spit another code, its most likely the coil

Wont srart,even with starter fluid

It sounds like you are not getting any spark, and this could be a number of things. Run a diagnostic on the vehicle to see what codes come up. In doing that you will save yourself time, and a lot of money by eliminating the guess work. It could be a faulty O2 sensor, cam sensor, crank sensor, coil pack, or the ASD sensor.

How do i fix my 2001 cadillac catera idle problem. ive tried fuel injector cleaner, changed the spark plugs, and o2 sensors, but it still idles rough and im throwing these codes. bad o2 sensor bank 1...

The problems you are describing indicate to me that you likely need to replace the coil pack that runs from the spark plugs ,and the plug wires end up at it.It also may be the spark plug wires, get a water bottle and spray the wires after dark and if you get a light show from them then replace them,if not, replace the coil pack.

02 sensor p0136 and cylinder misfire p0300

Most likely you do not have bad O2 sensor or coil sience you have P0300 code.
Check for vacuum leaks first , this is very common problem(vacuum leak) , lean mixture will cause misfire. I'm tallking about V6 engine , 4cyl have same problems but for misfire it may have bad coil (they under recall now).
Also check condition of air mass sensor , if it's dirty ,
buy air flow sensor cleaner and clean it according to user manual on the can.(air mass sensor can cause
O2 sensor code)
Check vacuum hose to fuel pressure regulator.
There are many more things to check , but that for mechanic shops after you try this.
