Question about 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

1 Answer

On the new ac compressor for my 2002 Chevy tahoe, there is a sensor in the rear of the compressor which detatched when attempting to fill the system. What is the sensor called and how can I properly mount it? Is there a special tool as the sensor was difficult to mount with the ring it came with.

The ac compressor was brand new. The sensor gave us hell getting it in with the snap ring pliers so it simply may not have been fully seated. Is there a special tool other than the snap ring pliers or could I have simply had the wrong sized sensor we tried to install?

The sensor on the back is a high side cut switch. If it blow out then you have a stuck orifice tube that needs to be replaced do to clogging up the system and causing a restriction. that is why the sensor switch blow. snap ring pliers will be needed

Your pressure is to high like i said ,if the compressor goes bad all the metal material will be stuck in the orifice tube.Did you replace that part?

Have 2001 Tahoe. AC runs cold in front and warm in back. Repair shop says rear expansion valve plugged (metal shavings, etc.). Suggest replacing compressor. Intend to get rid of truck early next year...

no it will not fail but i suspect that you only need a recharge of gas as with two AC units you should have about 1.2 kilos of gas in this system and i think you only have about half that ?? could be wrong mind but i do think your being taken here to make up the wage bill for the month

Need a air conditioner compressor for a 2002 chevy tahoe. how much does it cost?

For a reconditioned compressor, you are probably looking at Two Hundred dollars and up, depending on where you purchase it at, plus the installation. Usually if the compressor has been noisy for awhile, that can put fine metal cuttings in the system and requires a new filter dryer to be installed before you get any warranty on the new compressor. But now you could take a chance and go to a salvage yard and pull both off of a system, that is still sealed and install them on yours and be alright. If you were doing this by yourself, it could save a lot of money. Just a word of caution if you should start taking a compressor off, there is a certain amount of pressure in the system and if it should spray liquid , it will freeze the skin or eyes on contact

I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe. We have had to replace

Sorry to tell you this but if they used a recon compressor it could be bad!! Go and get the system checked to see if you have a leak that happens also and has the same affect. Good luck.

Air conditioning compressor not getting power on 96 Chevy Tahoe

Freon is what you are missing, our more specificly a refigerant charge that exceeds 45psi on the low side pressure line. This system has two pressure switches, a high side cut-out switch mounted on the rear of the compressor, and a low side or pressure cycling switch on the suction line.
Jump the low side switch contacts to ensure the electronics are sound for this system. If the compressor cycles, you know the system is low on a refrigerant charge. Turning on the AC is a request, and certain criteria must be met before the system operates as designed. Good luck

2002 Chevy Tahoe, started with rear a/c blowing warm/hot air, then it started working again. Now both rear and front a/c blows warm/hot all the time. All speeds seem to be working in front and back....

sounds like a leak. Have your system checked for leaks and re-charged. If the system is full of refrigerant, then check the pressure switch on the compressor and the pressure switch on the accumulator (dryer). If the pressure in the system is low, these switches prevent the compressor from running to prevent damage.

A/c trouble

Hello, it sounds as if you have a problem with your tensioner jumping violently. When the defrost is on it uses the ac compressor that is why the belt jumps then to, but it sounds like you are going to be needing a compressor soon. It has a piston that is hanging up at a certain point and thats why it is jumping. It will break a brand new belt when it locks up,when that happens. Please rate my answer, thank you.
