Question about Volkswagen New Passat

1 Answer

I think i might have gottn a bad tank of gas. 5 min after getting gas, my EPC light came on, and the car has approx 50% power. It starts and idles fine, but it does not have power. I have had 3 tanks of gas thru it since, but is still does not have it's power back. (the gas might not have been related- unless the fuel filter is clogged, but i wouldn't think that would turn a light on). In the morining it starts fine and the epc light is off and it has it's power, but after driving for 30 min it turns on, and the car looses power. I don't think it is the fuel filter because the car immediately looses power when the EPC light comes on. Sometimes when parked for 30 min, the light will go off for a few minutes and then turn back on. Any ideas?- the only other thing i can think of is an o2 sensor or some fault in the electornics.

Try pouring a 8oz bottle of regular alcohol into the gas tank, into about a 1/4 tank of fuel and take out on the high way and open it up ( floor the gas pedal and open up the pistons and let the alcohol clean the heads and this probably will solve your problem!

It sounds like you have water in your tank and/or bad gas. There are a few Chemicals that can help to remove it.... Dry Heet is one of them, but there are others. I would try to drain as much as you can first, as it seems to be floating on top of the gas. Then add the fuel cleaner. This should help. I would also replace the fuel filter if you cannot clean it out.

Switch gas Stations....
Thank you for contacting Fixya. Does this help? Let us know.

I wnet out of gas on my VW Beetle 2001 last saturday. When I added gas to the tank, the car wouldn't start and the EPC light went on and I haven't been able to get it to start ever since. Would the EPC light have anything to do with the gas pump or anything related to running out of gas?

The ingnition won`t start, how dow I by pass the EPC and start, the car was running fine but started not switching, when turning the key nothing happens, what is the EPC for? and how do I fix it with out...

Your EPC stands for "Electronic Power Control" and without it (bypassing it, as you stated), you will not be going anywhere in your car. The car MUST have the EPC on/enabled to run, as I have been told. The VW Passat does not have a throttle cable... it is controlled electronically. The EPC light means something is wrong in the drive-by-wire path, the "gas pedal" potentiometers or the electric motor-controlled throttle body, etc. You will need to take it to a mechanic/repair shop that is knowledgable in foreign automobiles (especially VW's) and has the appropriate tools and equipment to read any "codes" being kicked out by the computer.

I have a 2001 New Passat with the EPC light coming on randomly and it will idle high but next time I start the car it goes away. I think you will have to take it in to the dealer.

Car dies-hard to start

EPC= electronic pedal control it is a sensor and is located in front of the brake pedal . Depress brake with one hand ,the sensor with the other and release fast. this should disengauge the EPC lock listen for a thunk made by the EPC lock disengaging.

Go to auto zone. They will use a code reader to help you find exact component or components having errors. If its not the EPC.
it sounds like your mass air sensor or the throttle control sensor may be bad. Your gas and air may not be mixing properly thus causing your car to sputter, hesitate, and idle rough. It could be some other thinks like a bad plug or wire etc. Good Luck hope this helps. Please rate me if this helps thank you.

Electronic Power Control is what epc means. this could mean a brake light or a bad brake light switch check your lights. If that is fine you must have it check out by a tech
