I had this same problem last week. My car would start and then when i tried to accelerate it would seem like it took longer to go over 40 mph. I brought it to the shop and they said I need to have my transmission flushed and the Fuel injectors cleaned. The spark plugs were also dirty and not getting enough enough spark and that could be the problem too. I was old you need to get transmission flushed about every 30,000 miles to keep it in good running order. good luck!

Check your sparkplugs and transmission - you might be misfiring
Or you may have an combustion/exhaust problem

Sounds as if the input turbine or speed sensor may be the problem. May also be the pressure control solenoid. May want to check for any transmission service codes before proceeding with any other repairs.

Why car wont pick up speed when i get to 40mph then jerks and pick up speed

Does it down shift appropriately when accelerating? Normally when you stomp on the gas while in a high gear (travelling at 40mph), the transmission will downshift to a lower gear giving the car much more torque. This can cause the car to jolt or jerk forward and accelerate suddenly.

Are the engine rpms climbing when its jerking forward? seems like it could be a Transmission torque converter problem.

I have a 1997 trans port when u are driving it jerks and the faster u get the worse the jerking gets but when it is setting still its fine. when u go 10 or 15 miles it starts doing it so bad it turns off

You have bad motor or transmission mounts check it with someone stepping on the gas and the brake and have them put it in forward then reverse watch how much engine play there is or how far it travels back and forth if it's more than a half inch that’s your problem, if not post here and will give you the next procedure to check.
