Question about 1997 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

1998 CADILLAC DEVILLE CONCOURSE - COMPRESSOR CAME APART AND WAS REPLACED - NEW COMPRESSOR AND NEW ACCUMULATOR. NO CODES WERE SHOWING ON DASH WHEN CHECKING WITH UP AND WARM BUTTONS TO DISPLAY THE CODES. (I HAD CLEARED THEM BEFORE WHEN HAD A EVAPORATOR SENSOR LOW SIDE SENSOR ERROR. NOW THE NEW COMPRESSOR WILL NOT START UP. NO CODES SHOWING. SYSTEM HAS PROPER LEVEL OF FREION. THERE IS NO AC CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT AT ALL. IF YOU JUMP THE AC CLUTCH RLAY IT DOES START AND RUNS ICE COLD.

Hello, The system I believe was pumped down and evacuated but, if it was not, you are saying this could cause pressure switch to not allow the compressor to cycle as it should and either cause it to not cycle on at all OR to short cycle. In this case it will ONLY cycle on if you jump the clutch relay in the small fuse box on the right side.

I was just speaking to a friend of mine who is gm mechanic and he suggested checking the fuse boxes all of them.. WHERE are they all on the 98 deville - there is the small one under the hood.. and the one behind the back seat in the trunk area.. is there another.. What fuses should I be looking for.

The relay only had one hot point which i woould have thought would have 2 hot points. When testing the 4 prongs only 1 lit up hot.. the other 3 were dark.

I think that through reading on the web that someone suggested that the system should be evac down and then the compressor should be jumped and as you described, and then the system pumped back up to the specified 2 lbs.

Would you suggest this or any of the other ideas mentioned here.

    thanks

Another person suggested that I disconnect the battery?.. and let the system sit for 5 min or 10 min and then re-connect (does this cause a radio code issue or is that not an issue?) would this cause the system to cycle?

    thks
    dave

Redoing an AC system is trick business, the system must first be evacuated by a vacuum pump to remove all air before the refrigerant can go in and the pressure switch will not allow the compressor to come on or it will short cycle.
Assuming you did it all properly try disconnecting the wire to the compressor and jumping it to 12 volts, that will activate the clutch. If it comes on and blows cold then the switch inside the car might be bad or some other electrical issue such as relay or fuse is the problem.

98 caddy deville nothstar v8 how to replace heater coil have no heat and I'm loosing water somewhere

the heater core in a 1998 Cadillac is very tricky to replace.
start with getting a pressure test to determine where the exact location of the leak is, it may not be the heater core.
if you do decide to pull the dash apart to change the core make sure the battery is disconnected for at least an hour to allow the airbag system to discharge.

Ac works fine for about a week then shows low refrigerat level and compressor off-- no sign of leaking . mechanic checjed dryer. compressor replaced sensor on inside of frame and checked control in dash

Sounds like you have a leak. Some leaks are not that easy to find. I would inject some U.V. dye in the system and check for leaks with a high intensity black light, this process has never failed me, Also you might have a leak in the evaporator which would be hard to see without taking the housing apart, which in most cases means removing the dash

1994 Cadillac DeVille Concourse - Runs rough?

The "check engine" light will "light" when there is a malfunction in the engine management system. The fault code is then stored in the computer. The computer must be scanned to retrieve these stored faults to pinpoint the malfunctioning component. We recommend buying your own scanner and doing it yourself. With a pocket scanner you can check for fault codes to find out why the light came on in the first place. You can clear your cars trouble codes after you replace the malfunctioning sensors.
