Hello...I have an 09 elantra I just bought. It has 3,000 miles on it now. Once it reaches temp and after I shut it off it ticks/pings fast and loudly. It is very noticeable and I have never had a car do this. Can I do something about this?

I did that already. They claimed not to hear it. And they told me it is normal with the expanding/contracting of the metals. But I have never had a car do this and it is annoying and people do notice it....

Just curious. Why has no other vehicle I owned done this then? That is what I am confused about. I could see if all cars do this but they don't. I do hear some cars ping here and there as they cool. But this one pings really fast and loud, not like what I have heard from some vehicles....

The ticks and pings you hear is just the exhaust / header cooling down. Hot things expand and what your hearing is the exhaust system cooling down " contracting " . Dont worry about it, there's nothing you can do.

It's really just the thinner metal contracting and cooling and a different rate. Basically. It's nothing to take it to the dealer about. Hope it helps.

How often do you have to change oil in a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire? Consumer Reports is suggesting that newer cars (and I don't know if this means anything after the year 2000) probably can last longer than the...

Hello: At the time your owners manual was printed the oil change recommendation was 7500 miles, BUT that was under ideal driving conditions. (NOBODY drives a car under those conditions) If tour car has a four cylinder engine I would recommend between 3,000 to 4,000 miles. I have a 2001 Saturn with 202000 miles, bought new, use Castrol 10W30 Castrol oil have changed it every 3000 miles my self and have records to prove it. The engine still does not use or leak any oil.

Knocking under valve cover on cold starts

Is there any smoke when you first start it? what is happening is the valve seals are probably worn and letting the oil seep past them. when your engine is first started it has no oil or very little oil at the top of the engine, thus causing the knocking noise. could be more but this is a most likely answer. oh and is you haven't changed your oil every 3,000 miles you had beeter start doing it.... answer knocking sounds usually come from bottom of engine try a better quality and correct viscosity oil
