Ignition will not turn off

93 S10 Blazer automatic and tilt wheel. Ignition randomly will not turn off (key will only move to crank position). Unhook coil wire to kill engine, disconnect battery and ignition shuts off fine. May work perfect 5 or 6 times then acts up again.

SOURCE: help

Sounds like it needs a new fuel pump. Get a Fuel Pressure Gauge and check it make sure it up to the Specs,What I think is about 35 to 40 psi without looking in my book. Also you would want to make sure the fuel filter was changed, Your getting spark and fuel, But You stated your able to start it with starting fluid so I would say it must be a fuel pump problem.. I hope that help you out. If not get back to me and we can try some more trouble shooting. Take Care, Bear

On all the 90s s-10s there is a vacuum actuator under the battery tray and a vacuum switch on the transfer case itself. It is comon for the switch on the t-case to go bad and keep the front axle from engageing. If the front axle doesnt engage the truck will not have four wheel drive.let me know if this helped.

Fixing stuck key in your gmc envoy same as a blazer !
Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.

2002 trail blazer ignition clyinder feels funny wont crank

GM has a Problem with the ignition Switches INSIDE the Column. You need to remove the Air Bag, Pull the Wheel, Carefully remove the turn signal assembly, then you will need the Special GM Pulley to remove the C-Clip.

KEEP THE PARTS IN ORDER SO YOU KNOW HOW TO PUT THEM BACK IN THE SAME ORDER.

THE TILT CAN BE A LITTLE TRICKY

Under the Dash, is a FLAT HARNESS, you will see the new one and match it up. Disconnect it and pull the Harness (PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE ROUTING).

Remove the Torx Bolt and Turn the Cylinder and it will not pop out

Remove the Ignition Switch and pull out.

REASSEMBLE AS YOU ASSEMBLED,

This normally takes 40 minutes to do

Why would turning the steering wheel while cranking engine gets my car to start?

The ignition switch in the column most likely has a break in it. So when you move the steering wheel, it moves the wire so it completes the connection when you turn the key. Have the ignition switch replaced.

I can't get my key to Turn at all in my S10

try to spray a little wd40 down your ignition, not much though, it may be time to replace your ignition, your key isn't catching the ignition correctly, don't be to rough with it, but give it a little extra moving around, push it in and out a few different times.

The key wont turn at the final point to crank the car, last year my tumble broke, i had it fixed but when it broke i couldnt move the key at all, its not doing thay this time, 2 days ago i went to the...

Not an exact solution, but perhaps information that might lead to one.

1.Replaced the tumblers? I believe I would replace the entire ignition switch this time. It's my belief that the body of the ignition switch is worn inside, and will keep damaging the tumblers.

2.Do you have a tilt steering wheel? It's best to keep the steering column in straight line when starting the car, then tilt the wheel to where you want, after the car is started. When the steering column is in a tilted position, it puts undue strain on the ignition key switch, and the mechanism the ignition key switch operates, on GM vehicles.

This mechanism, consists of a half moon gear on the ignition key switch, that turns inside a 'Planetary' gear. I used the term 'Planetary', as the gear shape is hard to describe. It resembles an oblong loop, shaped like the number 9, with gear teeth on the inside bottom of the loop. This 'Loop' rotates, when the gear teeth of the ignition key switch, engage the teeth on the loop, and pushes a rod, or retracts the rod. The rod goes down the side of your steering column, and turns on, or turns off an ignition switch, located at the bottom left side of the steering column.

Having the steering wheel tilted, puts a strain on the ignition key switch internals, the oblong loop can break, and/or gear teeth can be stripped off.
