You can find the proper routing, by looking for the serpentine diagram, normally found on underside of hood or on radiator support in engine compartment
check the belt routing, you may have inadvertently routed it wrong, ive done it plenty of times on a taurus, think about it, if you didnt change the belt, how did it get longer????

My Ford Taurus does not have the belt routing in the engine compartment on the front clip, or under the hood. Do you have a diagram of the belt routing?
