Agreed - get help from somebody who knows what they're doing. Who told you the car needs a hg and why? Most of these are for oil leaks at the driver's rear corner. I don't recomment you try this alone if you've never done it before.

You're going to need at least $100-140 to do this job yourself-at home...without any problems. First, buy a Chiltons manual at AutoZone or NAPA...My guess is you'll have to order it ($25). Chiltons will walk you through the repair with lots of pictures step by step. Unfortunately, Chiltons will NOT tell you WHY the problem happened to begin with. Make sure you completely drain and chemically wash out the entire coolant system...My guess is, it's already too late for your radiator ($160)...Let's hope it's okay! Also, depending on how hot the engine got you should probably have the head "decked" at a engine machine shop...($50)
Good Luck and get a friend that might have some experience nearby to assist.

I have a 97 Dodge neon that sounds like it's running on 2 cylinders. I've changed the plugs, wires, coilpack, and fuel filter and still no change. I also took the #1 plug wire and the car doesn't die

What you describe here leads me to believe blown head gasket. Check radiator coolant level, then do a compression test on all four cylinders. You should have 115-150 compression in each cylinder. If your reading is down to about 25-75 on two of your cylinders. you will have your answer. If the car is still worth keeping change the head gasket and get another two years of driving.GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

97 dodge neon timing belt broke while going down the road need to know how to get car back in time bought a new timing belt new tensioner and still cannont get car to start junk yard says my car does not...

I do not have good news for you.
According to the Gates Timing Belt guide 2002 Edition, both engines offered in the Dodge Neon are interference engines.
This means that your engine has likely sustained sgnificant valve, cylinder head or even piston damage. Have you tested the compression?
It is probably least expensive to buy a used engine, change its timing belt and replace your engine with that one.

1998 Dodge Neon engine died when valves started knocking and car will not restart.

Check the engine for compression. Your head gasket may be shot. I have a 97 that had a similar problem, and we did the head gasket, car runs fine now. Prior to doing the gasket mine wouldn't start at all.

Do a compression test.

Yes, a machine shop is the best way.
A warp can be so slight that you won't see it with out the proper equipment.
Just make sure to tell them, you want an estimate before anything is done to it.
If it is warped, they can do a shave to straighten it.
They can also check your valves and valve seats while it is in there.
