Question about 1995 Volvo 850

2 Answers

My volvo overheated on the highway and I didn't notice until the temp guage was pegging. Now, when I turn it over it makes kind of a really whiney turn over sound, and it doesn't sound like the engine is turning over all the way. It has adequate fuel and battery charge. There is a hose that goes to the firewall that is ruptured that I have yet to replace, but I don't think that's what would give me the hiss. Any ideas?

It is indeed a heater hose, but would that prevent my car from starting?

If it is a heater hose that is going to your firewall....then yes, that is giving you your hiss and yes....you NEED to replace this or you will sieze the motor up!

Temp guage rolled over under tach chngd thermo no change. Not overheating. dis con guage @1st reset, now no chng.

this happens to alot of gm cars. the only way to fix it is take off the bezel for the guages and manually turn the needle back. some times you can get a wire in and hook the needle to flip it over. i have had this happen on buicks, pontiacs and chevys. this is the only way i have found to fix it. it may happen again. gm may have an updated instrument panel with a peg to stop it from doing it again.

Temp guage not working prpert. Stays on H even with car off.

You might want to chk. the connection on the sending unit and temp. sensor thats the way they act when they loose a connection. If that chk. out ok then it would have to be the guage its self thats faulty.

it's possibly one of 2 faults either the guage itself is faulty or it could be the voltage regulator

Whiney noise as i drive Volvo V70, even when i turn the car off

this sounds like the bearing in the thermostatic cooling fan has worn possibly lift bonnet with car started keep hands out and look for a fan on the front of the radiator the are usually black plastic and are easily replaced and become noisy when worn hope this is helpful glenn....
