You may be low on R134a and need a simple charge. As the Compressor cycles, the low side pressure drops and if it drops to far it will cut the compressor off till the pressure rises again. The high pressure side rises and the low side drops, but when it drops to far since there is not enough R134a in the system you get the on off cycle. The other cause to this is a bad pressure switch, or bad expansion valve, and moisture in the system as it ices up in the lines and pressure builds causing the pressure switch to cut the compressor off too. Re-cap, try recharging the a/c system for now since it's still working. Good luck and keep me posted. Be glad to help.

sounds like a fuel problem, how many miles on vehicle? as a quick fix it would be worth using a fuel addative , you haven't said if petrol or diesel, if petrol get addative that covers the catalytic converter ,having a blocked exhaust system can cause engine to stall also get the OBD codes read as this will tell you what if any sensors/switch's are faulty

engine wiring harness upper and lower could be degraded, coil could be bad, throttle positioner, fuel distributor could be bad and depending if its a half year car and you have an OVP that could be bad. Also after a full tune up have someone adjust the duty cycle.

1988 Mercedes Benz 300E 3.0L Gasoline F.I. ''Sputtering at Idle

ok..you must have more than one car???? you don't drive the 300 atall im guessing. #1 start car drive up the road and \back to your house. #2 let it idle till problem starts. #3 once it does start with the problem keep it alive with the gas pedal. #4 once your have it safely from dying in higher rpms "rev it" like a kid would, you know like if you were gonna race some one lol. be careful not to over rev or damage engine. you should do this for five minutes no longer than that. #5 let it idle for another 5 minutes. #6 repeat every day until problem with idling decipates. it took mine 3 300e like 3 days of this. if your not going to drive the car once you get the problem out of the way. turn the car on everyday and let it idle for 5 minutes atleast and take it for a short drive once a week. they get lonelly you know lol. later on you can just turn the car on every 2 -3 days and let it idle but still take it on a short drive atleast once a week

there might be a helper pump in the tank also and after 5 minute of running it needs help getting the fuel to the primary pump that you have jumped out under the body near the rear tire and it stalls. both pumps are controlled by that relay so whatever is stopping the first one is probably stopping the second one!

i had one in my shop once and it would run fine for days then out of no where it would die and not run! the socket that the relay sit's in behind the battery was bad , the pins were wreck so i changed that and then it was fine for a while then did it again afer tracing that harness all the way back i found several wires broke and rubbed through! it wasn't easy it was burried and had to open the man harness right up wide and took along time! hopefully this help in some way!
