Question about 2003 Lincoln Navigator
My 03 Navigator all of a sudden started to experience shifting problems from 1st to 2nd gear ( auto transmission). Sounds similar to the Toyota camry transmission shifting problem previously posted. Going from 1st to 2nd gear, the rpm will hit almost 4000 before it shifts very roughly, like a big **** with a sound sometimes like a thud. Once in high gear it is fine, but again slowing down, it shifts roughly. It also does it when I shift to reverse. Could it be just a solenoid switch or do I need a overhaul. car has 80K miles
Check and replace filter and fluids just like oil it tends to burn up and blacking and needs to be changed and flushed checking your tranny fluid it should be a red color not a dark red or with a black tint

Tips for a great answer:
This solves a lot of transmission problems but if you still can't shift then you may need to look at your throttle cables. A faulty throttle cable that has too much slack can prevent proper shifting, or shifting at all for that matter.
