Ignition timing for suzuki vitara

A LOT depends on WHICH ENGINE your 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara is equipped with.Ignition timing is not adjustable on any engine except the 2.5L V-6.
To adjust the ignition timing on the 2.5L V-6, a scan tool must be used to turn off the computer timing control to check and adjust base ignition timing. Base ignition timing specification is 4-6 degrees BTDC.

How do I set timing on my 1950 Mercury car with a 6 volt system positive ground? Do I need to use a special timing light for 6 volt positive ground?

you don`t need to use a special timing light to check and set timing as the light doesn`t care the polarity of the system.i`ve used a 12 volt light on a 6 volt system just noticed the light wasn`t as bright.

I cannot get the timing right so it can run

Let's make sure the Firing Order is correct first:
For the 3.0L V-6:
Firing Order:
1-2-3-4-5-6
Cylinders:
(back of engine)
1------3-------5
2------4-------6
(front of engine)
Distributor:
....(back)
...........1
......6
5..............2
...........3
......4
....(front)
Rotation: Clockwise

Next you should be considering based upon your Year (1992) the Timing Belt may be worn and/or skipping. It may be time to remove and replace the Timing Belt.
Click on the following Link. It has the Timing Belt & Mark(s) Diagrams you will need.

6-300 timing gear mark alignment

  1. Drain the cooling system and remove the front cover.

CAUTION When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Crank the engine until the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft gears are aligned.
  2. Use a gear puller to removal both of the timing gears.
  3. Before installing the timing gears, be sure that the key and spacer are properly installed. Align the gear key way with the key and install the gear on the camshaft. Be sure that the timing marks line up on the camshaft and the crankshaft gears and install the crankshaft gear.
  4. Install the front cover, and assemble the rest of the engine in the reverse order of disassembly. Fill the cooling system.
