Question about 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

1998 Isuzu Hombre 2.2L cranks but won't start.

I have a 1998 Isuzu Hombre 2.2L two wheel drive pickup (Made by GM is same as Chevy S10). Ok, here is my problem. It just suddenly stopped running with no warning. It will crank but shows no sign of trying to start. I checked the following items and all are good: ignition module, coils, has good spark, fuel pump is good and delivering strongly to fuel rail, fuel filter is new, battery is good. Now, I think the problem is the injectors. But before I remove the air intake manifold to possibley check the injectors is there anything else I can check before doing this? Is it possible that it could be the oil pressure sender that is bad or maybe the fuel pump relay? I know your probably saying that the fuel pump wouldn't run if relay was bad, but about 4 years ago my fuel pump stopped pumping so I replaced with new one and it still didn't pump so I wired it directly to a wire that was hot only when ignition key switch is on. That solved my fuel pump problem. So, what I'm thinking is: since I bypassed the fuel pump circuit 4 years ago could it now be this circuit that is shutting down power to injectors even though fuel pump is still running due to bypassing the circuit. I'm a member of FixYa and I provide my expertise in solving washer and dryer problems. I'm a mechanically inclined person but auto mechanics are not my specialty, I'm hoping that it's yours if your looking at this. Please help.

After trying to start, did you pull plugs & inspect them for wet from fuel, as you said you smelled fuel like it was flooding? Also keep in mind MAP sensor also provides info to VCM which then regulates fuel delivery & timing from info supplied by MAP sensor.

It's probably the anti theft system. You need to have a shop, reprogram the anti theft program. For some reason the computer thinks the car is being stolen. You may have used a replacement key, without a chip in it, or the program has just gotten weak and needs to be rebooted.

The oil pressure sender is a good idea.It sounds like you know what your talking about have you tried spraying a little starting fluid in the throttle body to see if it will start?do you have an injection pulse tester you will need one.if you have no injector pulse but of have spark suspect a bad quad driver in the computer.or possible oil sending unit but this usally just shuts down the pump.Good luck let me know.

SOURCE: Update to this problem: Told to try starting fluid, no response.

Get a good psi reading on the fuel pressure. These engines are very picky if the pressure is + - more than 7psi it will not open the injectors correctly.
Is it a vortec?

SOURCE: Could timing chain be broke.

it is possible was the engine rattling before it quite .if so the chain could have broke .Do a compression check the cylinders should be at least 120 psi.You should have smelled fuel before but you thought the injectors were bad so i assumed you didnt smell any gas.

97 gmc 1500 350 5.7 new fuel pump and filter it cranks over but wont start

Kelly, could be a few issues, security lock out, crank sensor, fuel pump fuse/relay, faulty new pump,faulty ignition switch, etc. Attached links may help you diagnose the crank no start issue you are having.

My 1998 Isuzu Hombre will not stay in overdrive I have changed fluid @ & filter also seams like vacuum pressure is high like my breaks r engaged

breaks = brakes?
the brakes use vacuum but never changes it.
so...... if it does, the booster diaphram is cracked.
OD, can be just a bad OD. switch or more complex.
did you scan the TCM yet if it has one?

why state vacuum high, then not state the values seen?
you connect the gauge, and it reads what? 19inches HG at hot idle is common.
or 0.64 bar (outside usa you use BAR) as you said pressure word for vacuum and is ok in pure science that word) but make me think yoiu are not in USA? or Canada maybe....????

i bet vacuum is just ok.
the issues are with the transmission and its controls.
post is older, are you still having issues.
do say and we can link you up to FSM information on 0D.
the book covers this.... ever see a real FSM before.
the real factory service manual,, (buy one, and win?)
or if in USA , is #1 online version of same.....

The pickup was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from 1996 through 2000, but only in North America
its not ISUZU at all.
you should know this and post to chevy, S10
2.2 liter or 4.3L engine
my guess is 4.3L with Brazil front sheet metal.

there are 12 control lines from the PCM puter,
and the transmission,
to find out why the OD fails
we first check all fuse..... (on all electric fails we do that)
then check levels hot, by the BOOK.
then scan the PCM for transmission errors, P07xx ? codes>

i look at the alldata. com at the Hombre 98 , pcm page.
od .
we make sure no errors from PCM
then check the switch, to PCM for OD active.
if the input is ok.
then we check the solenoid voltages in OD.
if correct then the problem is ok, outside trans, and not inside.

This trans is electronically shifted.
and uses a computer (TCM)
so inputs must be right to TCM
an outputs correct. if not , never blame the tranny first.

go there, its all three.
not cranking
or cranks ok but wont start, there are 100s of pages on EFI and start and changing, all related to no starts.

Remove steering wheel from 1998 Isuzu hombre

pull the plastic off around the steering wheel. there will be bolts to take it off after that. relatively easy job. just might need 90 degree ratchet connector.

Broken headlight assembly on a 1998 isuzu hombre can't find another one any where. need something that would work on my truck

looks likeno one even read your question man... im looking for the same part... and ive read its nearly impossible to find without going to the dealer... and then its 530.00 bucks per side... personally i think im just going to swap out the front end for a chevy s10... bolts right up for a third the price...

Isuzu Hombre pickup, 2.2L Vortec, Won't Start.

You need four things for an engine to run. 1. fuel 2. spark 3. compression 4. timing (spark at the right time. By your post it seems you have fuel and spark and you probably have compression unless you blew a head gasket. That leaves the timing. Check the timing and/or the timing belt or chain whichever you have.
