This is real tricky as you have two problems and not one and both are not connected as much , at least from the description that you are giving me and with out diagnosing the car properly. You need to know that the Rad fan works on the 4th marker in the gauge which is 100 temp as that is the design of the car and that is when thermostat does its work. I would suggest for the rad problem to try and replace the sensor for the temperature located on the lines top of the engine. As that could lead to faulty gauge reading and thus could act up which means that every thing is not getting the true temp reading for the car. if that does not work let me know

the PCM that runs the engine, for SURE cuts AC to keep engine from self destructing!! AC can do that,,,,,,
want a cracked or warped engine head ?
no.
the PCM cuts the a/c, and if engine is overloaded. or overheated
so forget the A/C
fix engine overheating (primary issues)

a $5 part compounds to $3000 new engine.
why not just get car fixed.???

1: fuses good? check them it means.
2: water leaks?
3: levels wrong? (in actual rad, cold tested)
4: fan belts loose?
5: bad thermostat
6: bad water pump, impeller rusted to zip, do to abuse.
7: over heats parked only or moving fast or only up hills,? key facts if only parked the fan is dead.

I have 1994 Golf. Heater blower stopped working but also found that radiator fan doesn't come on. Both fuses are OK. Hose to rad gets hot but warning light hasn't come on. What could be the problem?

for heate rblower ,check reostat,if broken, replace,
fan cooling is 100% different cirquit,
instead of the hot, that is a impression, check temp, that is a certainty, based on that, decide if too hot or not,
the 94 series the temp limit for slow speed is 97,for high speed it iq 101 celcius

I dont think my fan is working

there is a fuse for every load on the car, or car will catch fire. sooner or later......
the other fact is , many fuses are shared. some have 15 loads. (park)
think fan is working, ?
which one.?
1: cab heater
2: A/C condenser fan (extreme front of car)
3: the RAD fans, (see behind RAD)

tell fan? and I can tell which fuse.
the glove box guide , has a fuse page. lost that?

my guess, ? is the fan is OUT side the drivers CAB
"think" tell me its fan 2 or 3 above.
the tests for those fans is in the FSM.

the A/C fan turns on if A/C or defrost is selected. unless its
N.Pole weather. (it has logic that cuts this fan , under some wild conditions (unstated by you) what country? what latitude?.

the RAD fan, comes on , if you. (location not stated so, wild guess...)
1: drive 20miles
2: park and idle
3: as coolant passes 200F, near 230F, the rad fans come on
this is because the RAD is near useless , parked. (no air flow)

The FSM covers these tests.
or alldata.com

RAD = engine coolant Radiator.

My 1995 Lumina is overheating all the time can only drive it a few blocks before heat gauge goes to the right all the way and hot light comes on. Had thermostat replaced and it seemed to help..for a...

When the heat gauge shows hot and the hot light comes on the cooling fans must come on therefore there is a problem with the fans. The fuses been replaced so that is ok just check if it is not blown again indicating a short circuit in the fans. If that is OK check the wiring leading to the motor if it is not disconnected somewhere. Look on the engine where the fan heat sensor is by following the wires from the fan and check the connection. Change the fan heat sensor as last resort.

Changed thermostat and added coolant but 1997

could be waterpump?
i was going to say rad fan,but if so heater would be hot.
lack of coolant will make heater core to blow cold,if engine heats up with full coolant, usually means poor or no circulation.
water pump?
run engine with full coolant,at operating temp.with rad cap off and look in rad cap hole and see if there is movement of water inside rad.
[rad fan will not come on if water is not circulating through rad water pump?]

not likely it is more than likely the waterpump, make sure the thermostat was not put in upside down. if fan is not kicking on it is a fuse or coolant switch for the fan

Engine runs very hot

check if the rad fan is running optimally. Also, check the interval wherein the rad fan turns on and off.. usually, rad fan should be on most of the time... if it constantly turns off.. your thermostat is probably busted

Cooling fan relay 1998 neon

on the left(driver's) side of the lower rad support. It's a small flat relay with a plug on the bottom and usually has a blue colored front. held on by two screws. Also, there may be more rad fan relays in the underhood fuse/relay box.
Good luck.

1992 5.0 camaro no cooling fan except with ac

Yes there is a relay, but first answer this question, do you know the fans don't come on until the engine temp is above 230+ degrees F.? That is almost in the hot zone. run a scanner on the engine and watch the ECT sensor temp reading to verify proper cooling fan operation, a quick test to see if the system works is to unplug the ECT sensor, the fans will go into failure mode and turn on to avoid damage to the engine.
