Replaced thermostat seemed ok but still oveerheats at idle

Car overheats when using ac.


You can try several things. The radiator fan is controlled by a thermal switch and in some cases the A/C maximum air setting. Do you know if the fan is turning on? Some have 2 speeds. The thermostat is a low cost guess.

The engine idle can be affected by overheating. Also turn off the A/C and see if that makes a difference in idle or overheating.

I have a 1989 s10 blazer 4.3.The temp guage reads 225 is this normal? I have replaced the waterpump,thermostat & belt.

My 1995 maxima keeps overheating. The steering wheel locks up after all the dash lights come on and dies. What can be wrong with my nissan?


Ok those problems do not seem inter-related. Seems like you first have a problem with your power steering pressure switch which is connected with your idle air control valve. If your idle air control valve doesnt put more air in the engine when you're turning your steering wheel it can cause your engine to cut off because it is not receiving a signal from the power steering switch. As far as your car overheating, check your coolant reservoir, leaking radiator or broken thermostat.

Your problem may be that your fan clutch has gone out. When the car is moving, it's cool, but when stopped it's idling, the engine starts 2 get hot which causes the temp to go up. The fan clutch spends the fan, which cools the engine while stopped. I had the same problem. Once you get your new one, you would probably want to get a new thermostat as well, but ask the mechanic first.

2000 crown vic motor overheating and freezing up after 1/2 hour. New oil, fan, thermostat. water level ok. A/C was on.


Is the engine itself hot? or the car? If the engine is warm, check the engine coolant, and see if their are any holes or leaks..

there is a coolant cap on the overflow bottle check it for seal
i'd just replace it
also if you put the new thermostat in backward the overheating would be significant

'90 Subaru Legacy overheating....


cool air and overheating point to low coolant level. Do you have a bleeder valve near the thermostat? You may have air trapped in the system. If no air trapped, the radiator may be plugged up not allowing proper circulation of coolant.

it could be a fuse or fan relay, or a stuck thermostat, i will recomend to aply stright power to radiator fan to see if works, if don't replace fan and fuse, but if does, then it might be the thermostat, one very easy way to test the cooling fan system is by unpluging the coolant sensor with the car runing, if fan come on whit car runing and sensor disconected, the the system is ok, and might be a bad sensor, or stuck closed or open thermostat. please leave feedback if this take care of your problem
