Car running rough along with stains of what appears to be oil on both sides of car

Having worked on several cavaliers this year, I have found a tune up took care of the rough running condition, and all of them had valve cover oil leaks.
So consider replacing the valve cover gaskets and the spark plugs.

My toyota starts hard and runs rough till warm

what year, make and model? this may be caused by a bad sparkplug or coil pack, depending on the year, the older toyotas use spark plug wires and cap and rotor with a distributor.

1978 monte carlo would not start until i blowed air back toward gas tank.. starts but wont stay cranked,,,,run rough and wont idle,,then shuts off. changed sparkplugs and wires..took off distributor and...

Sounds like vapor lock in the gas tank. I would try replacing the gas cap before doing anything else.

Sometimes the only solution is the easiest and last thing you try.

Car will turn over but will not start

You will need to pin point the problem , by finding out what is lacking fuel or spark, try spraying starting fluid into the throtlebody and see if the engine starts but will cut back off once the spray is bruned up, but if it starts for a few seconds then you will know its a fuel problem,if it runs then you may have a bad fuelpump, the pump is located inside the fuel tank.if it doesnt then check for spark at the sparkplugs, to do this you will pull a sparkplug wire from a sparkplug insert a screwdriver into the boot of the wire you pulled off and place it near a metal part nearby and have someone spin the engine as you watch for it to spark, this will tell you if it has spark or not, also remove the dist cap and spin the key again and see if it sparks inside the dist, and also watch and see if the rotor in the distributor turns, the turning rotor tells if the timing belt broke if it doesnt spin while trying to start the engine, if the rotor is turning and theres no spark then you may have a bad distributor.do these tests and let me know the results and i can help you more, good day.

Lost of acceleration power, no power going up a slight incline. however in park engine runs a little rough, but will accelerate but when put in drive has no power

This may be caused by a misfire, this can be caused due to a tuneup, have the plugs and sparkplug wires checked, also is the check engine light on? if so scan the codes, many autopart stores will scan for free if there are misfire codes then i would start with a complete tune up and go from there, the most common problem when this happens is a tuneup is needed or the fuelpump is weak, to test the fuelpump you will need to have a pressure tester put on the fuel rail, hope this helps. good luck.

We changed spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, distributor button, etc. We unbolted the entire distributor assembly and pulled it out from the engine. We now can't get the car to start or run. How do I...

Does "entire distributor aseembly" include the metal gear shaft??
If so, you must remove the distributor again and re-insert it in the proper gear groove.
Normally, you "mark" the distributor and the engine with a marker before you remove the shaft so that you can replace it so the gears mesh in the correct position.

You can use "trial and error" to reposition the distributor or you can:

1. Turn the engine to the "Top Dead Center" (TDC) position so that the distributor rotor points to the #1 cylinder sparkplug wire.
2. The rotor on the distributor shafdt should be positioned to "point" to the #1 sparkplug wire.
3. Re-insert the distributor gear shaft.

Please comment if you need better detail...

Ignition Distributor location

There is no cap and rotor, as the vehicles igntion system is DIS (digital ignition system). The recommended tune-up on these motors require sparkplug and coil replacement. The coil type in this vehicle is COPs (coil over plugs). Usually moist and oxidation develope on the sparkplug chamber walls from faulty or worn coil boots. This causes the coil to short, they must be replaced at 75,000 miles at the same time the sparkplugs are replaced. Typical symtoms are: Vehicle stalls (restarts and runs normal), intermitted jerks/sputter while driving, misfires, rough idle, severe power loss. Hopefully this helps

check the temperature sensor for the computer. it may be telling the computer that the engine is still cold and causing the engine to run too rich at warmer temps
