Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive got a '97 jeep grand cherokee that has begun

I've got a '97 jeep grand cherokee that has begun to start, idle and accelerate poorly. When starting, sometimes i will turn the key, it starts and then almost immediately the revs drop and it dies. It wont idle at a stop in drive, the revs will start to drop and ill have to hit the gas to keep it going. (ive just been putting it in neutral at red lights to avoid stalling out and a trip to the mechanics sooner than i can afford. and while im accelerating, the revs seem to almost stick and not increase, they will then drop and i have to push the gas all the way to the floor and hold it for a second to get out it. if i drive too slowly backing out of the driveway or a parking space, the same thing happens and it dies. sometimes it starts right up and sometimes it doesnt. i dont know a whole lot about cars but some of my friends do and they've mentioned fuel pump failure as a possibility. just thought id ask here before walking into a auto shop with just a problem and no possible idea or questions to ask about it. anybody got any clue?

Get a code test done and see what you find...sounds like a bat throttle position sensor but without proper testing, I would not run out and buy one,

Cam Sensor? Not sure exactly but will make for harder starts and even an occasional no start situations. Also rough running idle and poor performance.

Disconnecting your battery, as you must've done when changing the starter, will cause the ecu to revert to factory settings and the computer will have to relearn the proper idle for your jeep.

If that's a 4 wheel drive make sure the front gear ratio matches the rear ratio or you'll destroy the gears everytime. I had the same problem with my '97 Grand Cherokee.

I have a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 liter that won't idle

Check your throtle postition sensor. It monitors what postion the throtle is at and sends that info to the ecm. It will go bad and cause that problem.

97 Jeep grand cherokee 6 cyl. idles down to 0 and dies.

any leaks in intake or exhaust upstream of the sensors, sparkplug condition and engine controls/sensors for out of range operation (including fuel pressure and condition of regulator)
IAC should be cleaned and checked as this can cause poor idle and shut down. I'm not saying not to change O2 sensors, but unless everything else if OK, it probably won't help.
