Question about 1992 Honda Accord

3 Answers

My 99 Honda Civic won't start when it is warm outside.

It sounds like it is going to start, but then quits. Sometimes once it is started it will just shut off altogether. We have replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, battery is good. We were told about the tumbler in the ignition. Any thoughts?

Honda's are notorious for hot start problems. Its most commonly the main relay.

Here's a good website to help you find the main relay to see if it needs resoldering:
http://techauto.awardspace.com/mainrelaydefine.html

And the instructions on resoldering:

It really isn't hard to do, but it IS tedious and isn't guaranteed to work. It may be easier to just buy a new main relay. I bought one on Amazon for about $30. Its easy to install. Good luck!

If the key goes in and turns and it starts or trys to start it's got nothing to do with the ignition. Fuel pump or filter is possible. Sounds like fuel delivery if it cranks and cranks but wont start. That's likely the problem. Hope it helps!

Car was running then just quit and won't start. 3/4 tank of gas. will turn over rapidly

Really sounds like a broken timing belt. Such a problem "sounds like" you hooked 2 car batteries to the starter at once and it seems to crank twice as fast as normal.
For sure, remove the cap on the valve cover where you add motor oil.
Take a good flashlight and peer intently inside. You will see the top of a valve and the valve spring just to the right of the opening. Have a helper crank the engine.
If it is a broken timing belt, the starter will turn the craknkshaft, but the valve will stay motionless.

Why does my 1994 honda civic ex not start only when it is hot outside?

My first guess would be the fuel pump relay or the ignition module.
Look for something that gets hot and fails like a relay or electrical part.
When it won't start, check for spark at the plugs and the fuel pressure.

My 91 honda civic has a problem starting sometimes. It starts in the morning. Sometimes it will not start on a hot day and it will just shut off while driving occaisionally. Often it must cool off before...

It will be the main relay. It is a massive fuse under the coin tray. The joints become dry and need re-soldered. A very common problem on these cars.

The clunk is the starter engaging the flywheel, check that it is properly seated, a bolt might have come loose.

It sounds like the map sensore is loosing it's life. It's also quite possible that it just needs a tune up.
