More than likely that it is either ba crankshaft position sensor if it has one or ignition module because they build resistance when the copper windings inside them get hot on the crankshaft sensor or when the ignition module heats up they begin to fail its very common for these things to go bad on chevrolets also you might want to look into your fuel pressure because fuel pumps also begin to fail in this way you described when they are worn out and when they cool down they work again

also those models have a body control module that is known to fail and it controls all your gauges and lighting

SOURCE: Temp gauge

the sender for the gauge is on the cylinder head near the spark plug if you unplug it the gauge should stay all the way cold then ground it out it will go all the way hot if that reads like that replace the coolant sensor

I would check to be on the safe side the fuel filter is going in the right direction. The arrow is pointing towards the engine away from the fuel tank, Then you need to make sure the fuel pump wiring connections are good contact and did not come loose when driving.

SOURCE: 1990 full size blazer starts fine idles then dies

sounds real easy either a bad idle air control solenoid or more likley a blown throttle body gasket. to test fro a blown gasket, with engine running and cool spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner around base of tb were it bolts to intake. when it hits the bad area, should idle down and be normal for a second or 2. iac is possible, try this first since its so common and let me know

2012 dodge ram 5.7 2500 will not stay running.

If you don't have a code reader that reads live data, borrow one or go to an auto parts house and 'rent' one. Watch your intake air temp (and coolant temp) as the engine warms up. If you don't see the temperatures going up (coolant more than IAT), you may have a bad temp sensor. The computer feeds more fuel when the engine is cold, and may be running the engine excessively rich when it is warmed up.

The car is overheating and the fans are not coming on. I changed the coolant temperature sensor still not working. I also jumped the fan they were working relay everything is good. No leaks.

What make , model an year vehicle ? The PCM / ECM engine computer controls that relay . The best way to diagnose this is to hook up a scan tool an see if the PCM / ECM can control ( turn on ) the relay ! I'm going to ask a silly question , what are you going by to determine the vehicle is over heating ? The Temperature gauge . Temp. gauges do go bad . Hooking up a professional grade scan tool that can read engine sensor data PID'S is the way to see what the PCM/ECM is seeing as far as engine temp. Most vehicles the cooling fans don't come on till 200 to 220 degrees ! You could buy a temp gun at harbor freight an see what the temp is at the upper rad. hose .

There are 2 temp sending units on this. One is for your gauge or light and the other one feeds info to the ecm. I think the one for the ecm is bad ,so the ecm thinks the engine is cold all the time Hope this helps

Won t stay running when first started. runs fine once its warmed up

This sounds like the temp sending unit for the ecm is bad. There are 2 temp sensors, 1 for the light/gauge and 1 for the ecm. The sensor sends a signal to the ecm to tell it engine temp, the ecm them adjusts fuel mixture for cold or warm engine. This works much the same way as the choke does on a carb for cold starts

Temp gauge in car goes all over the place from cold to 1/2 to 1/4 to hot back to cool etc.

Thermostat installed up side down will not operate. Don't discount the sensor as being bad or have bad connection. The only true way to know is with a independent thermometer. Most coolant has corrosion protection in it. Radiator might need to be boiled out.

On a vehicle this age, it is likely that the fans themselves have worn out. Test the fans by running battery power directly to the positive contact. If they start, they are OK. On 4.3 motors, there is also a seperate temp sensor to signal the fans, usually called a fan switch. I believe it operates independent of the ECM. Another possible culprit is a bad ground at the fans or even a loose or corroded negative battery cable.
