Question about Lincoln LS

2 Answers

At a cold start it blows cold on drivers side, passenger side is always warm, after driving 10 to 15 minutes it blows hot. air bag light is also on, I understand this is probably the clock spring. Could this be related? I have dual climate control.

It is my air conditioner blowing hot air, i had no problem with my heat when it was cold outside. I know I have dual temp control and a dual coolant control valve could this be causing my problem? if so where are they located and how do you test for it? Also, about the clock springs my controls on the steering wheel aren't functioning, would this also affect the controls for the a/c. My key remotes are also not working, can this be programmed at home or does it need to go to the dealer?

  • Judy Wilkins Jun 25, 2009

How do you run the climate control self test? Also the key fobs, can this be programmed here or does it have to go to ford? The quote of 500 is this for the part alone or with labor?

  • Judy Wilkins Jun 25, 2009

2002 Lincoln Ls, is the a/c self test done thru the cars computer. I have a cadillac deville that is done this way, we have a shop manual for the caddy but not yet for the Lincoln

THE AIRBAG AND AC ISSUE ARE NOT RELATED, KNOW THIS FOR SURE I AM A FORD DEALER TECH AND SPECILIZE IN AC PROBLEMS. THE 1ST THING YOU NEED TO DO IS HAVE THE CLIMATE CONTROL HEAD IN THE DASH SELF TESTED, BUT BASED ON YOUR SYMPTOMS I SUSPECT IT AND AT LEAST ONE OF THE AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROL BLEND DOOR MOTORS IS DEFECTIVE, HAVE THE SELF TEST RUN OF THE CLIMATE CONTROL HEAD AND SEE WHAT TROUBLE CODES SHOW UP AND THEN U CAN WORK FROM THERE, THE AC CONTROL HEAD IS AROUND $500 SO I AM SURE U DON'T WANT TO GUESS.

THE CLIMATE CONTROL TEST IS BEST LEFT TO FORD DEALER, U CAN PROGRAM THE KEY FOBS.

I NEED THE YEAR OF THE CAR TO SEE IF I CAN LOOK UP THE KEY FOB PROGRAM PROCEDURE.

  • yadayada
    yadayada Jun 25, 2009

I HAVE CALLED A FELLOW FORD TECH AND HE SAID THE KEY FOBS MUST BE PROGRAMMED USING A FORD ONLY ELECTRONIC SCANNER TOOL CALLED AN "NGS" SO U CAN'T DO IT AT HOME.

  • yadayada
    yadayada Jun 25, 2009

U must use an NGS Ford scanner to access climate control data and trouble codes, these scan tools cost around $1,400.00 last time I looked into buying one, then u need a set of factory manuals to do the testing of the sytem, there is one other issue that can cause this problem, I borrowed this from another experts discription of the problem area, it is the duel climate control valve inder the hood.

The problem may be a bad dual climate control valve. This component is located on the right side near the radiator under the hood. It will have several coolant hoses hooked to it and 2 silver cylinders protruding from it. You can clamp off the heater hoses at the heater core and see if both sides cool then and this will tell you that the valve is letting coolant thru when it shouldn't be flowing while the AC is on.

I assume ur talking abt car heater.....there are two different valving setups for the HVAC due to the Driver/Passenger controls. One of these could be malfunctioning.
first of all The blend door is probably stuck on the passenger side. so check and ensure its not....

Before you can determine the problem, you must first know how your car heater works. Remember that the part that transfers heat into the passenger compartment is the heater core. This can be thought of as a mini radiator. The coolant flows through the heater core while the fan, also known as the blower, blows air through the heater core’s fins. When the air blows through these fins, it is heated and that heated air warms the passenger apartment.
Now we can check why your car heater is blowing cold air. You can start by checking the coolant. This coolant is the substance that warms the heater core. Therefore, if the coolant is low, it is possible that that may not be enough to warm the air that blows to the passenger compartment. If you’re wondering, why can’t your temperature gauge just warn you about the low coolant, it is simply because the temperature outside is cold so low coolant may not affect the operating temperature of your engine. Once the coolant is full, put the engine at normal operating temperature. Feel the heater hoses that go through the firewall; they both should be hot to the touch.
If only one is hot, this means that there is a blockage in the heater core or there is air trapped in the heater core. Use a coolant funnel to purge the air from the cooling system. If the coolant is really brown, it has been neglected. If “stop leak” has been used at some point, the heater core could be blocked up. This blockage can be removed by flushing the heater core through the heater hoses using a garden hose with a sprayer.
If neither of them is hot to the touch, there could be a malfunctioning heat control valve. Check for the heat control valve by following the heater hoses back to the engine. There might be a broken vacuum line so the valve cannot operate. And maybe you by-passed the heater core because of a leak, so you looped the heater hoses.
If you are sure that the coolant is in good shape, but cool air is still blowing out your car heater, you can check for proper airflow. Adjust the heat control to the highest and lowest; listen for the movement of the doors within the heater case. These doors can be controlled by vacuum motors, cables or electric actuators. If it is controlled by electric motors, tapping it can sometimes make it work. If it is controlled by cables, find the door that controls the airflow across the heater core. If it is controlled by vacuum motors, the diaphragm needs replacing.

If you want to check your charge to confirm that you have no refrigerant or whatever, the low side port is under the car, attached to the bottom of the compressor. I don't recall if the cap was right there when you looked up or if something had to be removed, it's been 3-4 years since I checked mine. If you have no charge in there, you probably will need to have the system evaluated to see where the leak is. If it is slowly leaking to the point of staying charged for a couple of years, then you should be able to top it off. If you hear the fan start to turn really fast while recharging it, you may be overcharged, and will need to have some refrigerant removed in an environmentally-friendly manner.

if its an issue with labour and replacements....it cud range anywhere between 350$ to 750$....

but its most likely sounds like you have a bad dual heater valve or a problem with the electrical circuit. What you can do is pinch off the hoses going to the heater core. If the air is cool on both sides then you know it's either the valve or the circuit. If you do not have much mechanical experience the valve is not an easy job.
If it's the valve it costs about $500.00 parts and labor. It may be the wiring/circuit going to the valve or the controller but more often it's the valve.if u feel i ve spent my time helping u... kindly rate my service......
good luck

Driver's side air blowing warm, won't change

Sounds like there is a crack in the vent that leads to the drivers side, and hot air from the engine is leaking through.

AC cold on passenger hot on drivers side

Sounds like multiple problem's. The a/c sound's like low on freon. The air bag and ses light are seperate systems from the a/c.Any time the service engine light is on it has to do with the engine system, the air bag is also seperate.Need to take in and have the code's checked for the service light and they can also check the air bag system and see what codes are stored and go from there.

2005 Yukon Denalli - Blow cold air out the drivers side

the passenger side electronic controller is sensing the passenger side temperature is cooler than it really is, which causes the controller to increase the hot water flow to warm up the passenger area...any time you replace a battery or loose your charge, the HVAC module will need to be reset...Try this...
Remove your hvac fuse for 10 sec - reinstall fuse. Start engine "DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING FOR 3 MINUTES" Recalibration of module will accure when power is lost (fuse pulled, battery changed or died) If hvac reset did not work you have a trouble code - reset BCM There are two ways to reset your body control module Go to the GENERAL Remove BOTH battery cables (for the sake of CAUTION remove air bag fuse and wait 5 MINUTES) Hold both cables together for 1 minute - drains KAM (keep alive memory). Put everything back together Start the engine "DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING FOR 3 MINUTES" If you have no broken parts - system not default (normal operation)

If that works it just saved you 600 dollars...dealer costs to repair.

Good Luck...please rate me a fixya.

2004 Chevy Silverado AC is blowing warm air on passenger side.

You have dual zones that are controlled by temperature actuators the passenger side has lost its memory or has gone bad you can put it in self programming by disconnecting the battery for ten minutes then hook it back up start the truck turn the temperature control on but do not touch any other controls let it go thru the self programming for about 6 to 7 minutes then select your temperature you want if it still does not work properly you may have a bad actuator or a bad connection at the actuator
