Question about 1996 Oldsmobile 88

1 Answer

'96 Delta 88, died when lowering window, one restart, dead now.

Good fun chasing this one down....  Died on the side of the road when my wife tried to lower the window.  Would not restart.  She could not raise the windows before she walked home.  Car restarted 5hrs later, but died when my buddy hit the turn signal.  Towed it home.  Again no windows.  Door locks would only unlock with the Ign. on, but worked normally ign. off.  Window controls will only dim out the interior lights Ign. on or off.  Seems like a bad ground.  Oh yea No fuel PSI...  and seat controls worked before the last restart, but dead now.  Where the F is the ground for all these... Or is it the PCM? (black box behind the glove box?)  I know it controls the door locks, but what else? Yea I need a service manual with a good wiring diagram.  Any help would be great.

All I can suggest is to carefully check out the condition of all +12V power supply leads and ground connections, from the battery to the general power distribution bus at the fusebox.
Pay particular attention to battery terminal posts and any in line maxi power fuses/fusible links and associated connectors, terminals and connections.
Check you havent lost a ground connection between the battery, engine/transmission assy and the general body.
Also worth checking the alternator is working correctly, able to carry the normal running loads reliably. Battery terminal voltage should be approx 14 to 14.5V with engine running when headlights on, A/C blower motor running.
I assume the battery charge condition is ok when these problems occur.
Check electrical and physical condition of the actual Ignition/Accessory switch and associated steering column loom connectors.
Good Luck!

Drivimg down road excellerated and car bogged down and died could this be a timing chain replaced electronic modulator and now gets fire but still wont start

I doubt it. If the chain failed, the cam would not turn and you would not get spark.
If you have normal compression on all cylinders, I would look at fuel pressure and engine computer codes.

than that,no ties to this site

I would suggest a corroded away fusible link,
is the cause of all your problems

Not the grounds your loosing, the feeds.

Work your way from the battery, till you get to
fusible links, may be in site on inner fender or
hiding in plastic conduit or tape
