What, in particular, is wrong with your brakes? Because you have not specified, to your detriment, all I can do is provide you with a whole list of common problems with brakes found on this great handyman site that was referred to me long ago, which has a section dedicated to auto care:

http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Brakes.htm

This should help given your overly ambiguous problem. Good luck!

Brake problems, soft brakes must pump brakes f

More than likely you do have a bad master cylinder. Replace it as soon as possible beause it will progressively get worse.

My brakes get drag and the pedal is hard sometimes i pumped and the car drives good and the brakes get little softer

If the brakes get softer when you pump them it sounds like a master cylinder problem... but first I'd check all the brakes and bleed all 4 as well. it's free and only slightly time consuming. Replace any bad pads as necessary. If all else fails, replace the MC

Got my tires rotated and the shop informed me that my brakes had gone bad and needed replacing. Rather than spending 900 dollars I didn't have, i opted to do the work myself. Brakes work now, but...

that sounds just like a leaky none return velve in the master cylinder or very low on brake fluid it may even have got air in the system also if you removed the rear drums and never ajusted up the brake shoes this could give you this problem check the rear brums first the brake shoes should just be tuching the drums if there not pull off the drums and wind up the ajusters then refit the drum till the drake shoes are only just clearing the drum i know they have self ajusting shoes but half the time they just dont work very well so ajust it by hand,, the front brake are disk's and they are self ajusting,,,
after doing this work leave the car for a minue or so and stamp on the brake to pump them out if you then need to pump the brakes up again that shoes its just ajusted the rear drums,,,the brake pedel should only ever need to be prest once never pumped up,, if this dont help you out and sort out the problem then and only then replace the master cylinder as there normaly very strong and dont brake down often and they often leak brake fluid first,,,my bet is its the rear shoes needing ajusting up

Vw t4 1995 2.4 diesel brake problem, brakes no feel, changed servo

To check the vacum pump.all you have to do is remove the pipe from the servo, and with the engine running that pipe should be sucking.place finger over the pipe and check. If its not sucking then check the pipe for cracks. If the pipe is ok then replace the pump

1990 Trofeo .. brakes pedal goes hard .. loss of power brakes. Fluid is up and I can't find any leaks

There are two things to look for regarding this problem. You have the "teves" ABS system, as do I in my 1989 trofeo. They were NOT that good, and tend to be somewhat trouble--prone. I DID have the same problem you do, mine was the ABS pump relay. There are two brake system relays mounted on the firewall of our cars, near the center, above the A/C blower motor. One is for the pump--the other one is for the whole brake system. If the pump relay goes bad(due to it running too much, from a "bad acumulator" which I DID have--and you probably do too..), it will not turn on the brake pump, and if the acumulator is either bad, or discharged...you will NOT get ANY power assist at ALL!! Our cars do NOT use vacuum brake assist--it is ALL done by the hydraulic pressure, stored in the accumulator. The relays are only about 10 each, and not hard to get. Another somewhat possible problem is the brake pressure switch, which triggers the pump relay, and it sometimes goes bad. If so, it causes the same problem as the relay. It is on the brake master cylinder assembly, and has about 4 wires or so on it

Also...you may have a bad accumulator. This is the ball--shaped thing on top of the master cylinder. It stores brake pressure, between pump runs. If it goes bad but the pump still works...you WILL have brakes, but SOMETIMES...the pedal will be hard at first, and then work. They go bad after some years of use, and mine was bad. A new one is available from GM, for about 150.

Once these "sore spots" are taken care of...the Teves system DOES work nice, and stop quick. Just have someone check these things that knows what they are doing. Good luck with your Trofeo--I love mine.

Jack.
