Question about 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis

Trunk releases when shifting

Today, my Mercury Marquis trunk started releasing when I shift into reverse or drive. The keyless entry release and the door trunk release do not work.

The fuel cap seal looks good and I do not see a problem with the trunk release (is their something I should be looking for). The internal trunk release handle still works. Here's a little more info, by the way it is a 2003 Grand Marquis not 2002 (my mistake on how to enter data in FixYa).

Yesterday after filling my car with gas, I picked up my family at the airport. We loaded the trunk quite full and shifted into Drive to pull away. The trunk popped open. We tried numerous times to close it. We finally settled on putting the car in Drive whereupon my son would close the trunk and hop in the car (I kept the car in Drive during this time). Later, I noticed my keyless trunk release and door trunk release would not work. I tried reprogramming my keyless release to no avail. When I push either malfunctioning release, you can hear a very audible click but nothing happens.

By the way, about 6 months ago I had the fuel pump replaced. The mechanic could only get the fuel tank back in position by tearing out the trunk. I have not had any problems until yesterday so I do not think he did anything wrong.

Can not open trunk on a pontiac soltice. No clicking sound from remote or switch in glove box fuses are ok

The rear compartment lid release system consists of the following components:
• Body control module (BCM)
• Folding top cover actuator
• GMLAN serial data link
• Keyless entry transmitter
• Rear compartment lid ajar switch
• Rear compartment lid release actuator
• Rear compartment lid release switch
• Remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR)
• Trunk fuses
• Trunk release relay

Rear Compartment Lid Release System Operation
The rear compartment lid can be released by operating the rear compartment lid release switch or pressing the rear compartment lid release button on the keyless entry transmitter. When the rear compartment lid release switch is operated, the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit to the body control module (BCM) is switched to ground. The BCM receives the rear compartment lid release switch input and applies ground to the trunk release relay control circuit. This energizes the trunk release relay coil, closing the switch side contacts, allowing battery voltage to be applied to the rear compartment lid release actuator and folding top cover actuator, releasing the buttresses and opening the rear compartment lid. Ground for the rear compartment lid release switch is provided at G300. The rear compartment lid ajar switch, rear compartment lid release actuator, and folding top cover actuator are provided ground at G301. The rear compartment lid will not release until the vehicle speed is zero and in park.

Do you know what DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are ?

How do I fix an inoperable automatic trunk release on a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis?

The trunk release is like a solenoid. You should check the power wire going to it to see if the wire is working when you press the trunk release. If the wire shows power when you press the release, the solenoid must be bad if it does not work. You can check continuity of the solenoid too.

Trunk release for 98 pont gp no power, can't find the fuse and the switch itself was checked and was good

Check trunk release solenoid for power and ground when applied from switch. If power and ground ok, then release solenoid is the problem in the trunk lock mechanism. If misssing power or ground, then electrical diagnostics will be required

Why is the trunk popping open with a clicking sound mercury sable problems

I would get the remote checked at a parts store like Autozone. Could be trunk release button is stuck. Also try disconnecting the battery(neg terminal) and then see if trunk locks. The locks are made to work mechanically without electric. This way you would know if it is an electric problem or broken lock.

Keyless entry and dash remote trunk release not working

Use your key to unlock the door / trunk. If your car starts up; it might just be a connector and / or your battery in your remote. Try the simple / cheaper fix check by checking the connectors leading to the trunk release solenoid.

Bought a 92 grand Marquis used and didn't come with trunk key. Is there a way to get into trunk without key? Is there an emergency release inside the trunk?

Sometimes you will find a button inside the Glovebox. This is an Electric trunklid release. Some of the models had controls on the lower drivers door along with the Gasflap release. It depends on the Series that you have. The S, and GS, had less features than the LS model.

You can go to a Locksmith and they have a box of keys and will try them until one opens your trunk. Then you can have a key made to match your lock.

I don't believe the inside releases were made standard in 1992.

Car will not unlock.

To get inside the car .... Use the key in the lock cylinder, unlock the drivers door to get inside. You shouldn't have to reprogram the fob unless it or the keyless module was changed. There may be a blown fuse that supplies the keyless control module (check the owners manual for location). or wires that lead into the Drivers door may be damaged ... The keyless module is located inside the drivers door at the bottom behind the door panel ... do the unlock/lock and trunk release switches on the inside of the drivers door operate the locks and or trunk release? If so it is not the fuse ... and not the wires to it ... And it could be your BCM body control module, located in the dash board to right of your gas petal. Because the number entry keypad (code for that is on the inside of the right passenger trunk bracket arm) also doesn't work I assume it's not the key fobs themselves. Your 98 manual is correct for your car.

Does pushing the trunk release button make the back up lights illuminate? Has the car been serviced or wrecked before this problem? Have you been golfing and put clubs in the huge trunk. Either the ground wire for the trunk lid devices is bad or the trunk release wire (purple/orange) and the reverse lamps wire (purple/white) have been reversed.
