Starter should not be too hard to find ...just follow the battery cable to it. And don't hit it...that generally will not fix anything.

Im not completely sure but maybe one of these answers can help ya...... 1. the starter is connected to the bellhousing (the part of the transmission that connects to the engine) and sits above the tranny but on the fire wall side.

or ....2.The bolt heads to unbolt the starter on the Sentra are located on the left side of the engine under the air cleaner and air inlet housing to the fuel injector intake. These housings must be removed to access the bolts heads, and then the starter is taken out from under the car on the right back side of the engine. The hardest part is disassembly of the intake housing to get to the bolt heads for starter removal.

Where is the starter located on a nissan sentra so - 7493943.jpg

It's about there and looks like that =)
There is no guarantee that smacking it will make the car run.
I've used a broom handle and a hammer to hit a few in my day.

On the engine/transmission joint. You will need two people to perform this test.

starter is located on the front side of the motor, easiest way to reach it is from underneath just between the radiator and the motor, two 13mm bolts hold it to the transmission

Where is the starter on a 99 nissan sentra?

The starter on 4th generation (1995-1999) Nissan Sentras is very easy to locate and replace. It is a mostly-black cylinder, about 9 or 10" long and 3" thick, that sits on the front center of the engine. It is held on by 2 bolts, and has 2 wires connected. The 2 bolts come off easily, one of the wires simply comes unplugged easily, and the other has a small bolt holding it on.

Replacement may involve removing a bracket that holds the throttle (gas pedal) in a certain position, because there may not be enough room to work with that bracket in place. Removing and replacing that bracket (which is held onto the engine block by 2 bolts), does not affect the operation of the car.

If this is the first time the starter is having issues, replacement can be put off for a couple weeks by taking a small hammer (or something similar) and hitting the starter. Don't hit it too hard, but don't be too gentle. It might take several hits to get it to work. This is only a temporary solution. The starter WILL have to be replaced eventually.

Good luck (remember rated this post).

Need to bypass ignition switch on nissan sentra

it should be underneath your car in between the firewall and the engine. Now you don't want to supply direct power to your starter because you'll end up frying it. However to just start the car once you've located the starter, get a long screwdriver with a plastic handle and connect the two wires with the screwdriver.

As for a long term fix, without investing the money to replace the necessary parts. You will need to attach a wire that can handle 12v to both wires on your starter separately. Then connect the other ends of both wires to a switch that can handle 12v, and mount that in your car somewhere. Then whenever you need to start your car just flip the switch on until the car starts then once it is started flip it back off.
I know this sounds like a lot but it is very doable with about $5 and a little bit of time.
