V-10 4x4 4.30 gears dyno at 209 hp and 310 torque but running lean at 15.5 + why ? not pinging.

Turbo boost adjustment for mack 470h.p. engine, how do you make this adjustment?


there is none as the engine uses all the boost it can get
if you want more power then have the pump reset to 500 hp settings
boost pressures are a result of the fuel settings from the pump allowing more fuel in to burn which produces a hotter exhaust making the turbine wheel spin faster which creates the extra boost
a genuine mack 470 hp engine is a really torque engine if driven properly and if dyno tested will produce around 450 hp at the back wheels with a relative flat torque curve which means that the rpms hang on longer before having to change gears
however to keep the maximum torque available at rpms you have to drop a half ratio as soon as the rpms start to drop as the range change will be 250 rpms and that will keep the torque range well up
don't let it bog down as all that does is waste fuel and drive time

pinning( detonation) is spontaneous combustion ( untimmed fire) . IT happens as the fuel / air mixture self ignites and the pressures are on the piston as the piston is coming up and that slams the piston hard against the cylinder wall. You have the timing way too far advanced and the CPU cannot retard it to adjust to the circumstances and the air/ fuel mixture that will be far too lean. At 15 degrees advanced you are not gaining anything as the CPU advances even further with the high RPM\'s .Set the engine to 10 degrees advanced and let the CPU take care of the rest . You should have knock sensors and they tell the CPU to adjust the fuel and timing to prevent detonation. If you want the car to jump at the lights then fit a high torque at low rpm\'s cam. You will not have a lumpy engine but when you get to go it will go with out all the drama that you now have . The octane rating has little to do with detonation and in fact may even make it worse as the burn rate is increased slightly with out any benefit for what you want. To sum up what you have is the fuel/ air mixture igniting in the cylinder as the piston is coming up before the spark occurs. It occurs from wrong mixture ( too lean) and timing wrong and if you continue to run the engine as you are it will melt out the tops of the pistons.

The pining noise you are hearing is detonation in the engine and comes from incorrect air/fuel ratio making the engine run too lean, It is spontaneous combustion occurring before spark and tends to drive the piston back down the bore. It is detrimental to the engine and should be rectified asap. Run fault codes and look for sensor problems. Vin numbers are unlikely to show the gear ratio of the rear end as there are 4 ratios for each model of car. Jack up on side of the rear . count the number of turns the pinion does for each revolution of the wheel . Divide that by 2 ( side gears in diff carrier multiply by 2 when driving one wheel)and you will get the ratio. So 10 revolutions of the tire gives 35.5. revolutions at the pinion equals to 17.5 or a ratio of 1.75: 1 ratio

if it has overdrive transmission the torque convertor has a vein broke inside causing shudder replace torque convertor.
the torque conver does the overdrive when it hits a certain rpm it upshifts to overdrive in torque convertor.
with vein broke it hrows it out of balance causing it to shudder and possibly slip.

Just wondering how much horsepower and torque a 383 stroker engine with a 4.030 bore, 3.75 stroke with a 278 crane cam with 222 degree at .050 inlift .470 lift, port and polished gm heads with 2.02 intake/...


I would guess you would be very close to the 1 horsepower per cubic inch ball park with very comparative torque figures, but...so much depends on how well the fuel mixture and ignition timing is set up. The port and polish work is also very important, bigger isn't always better, it's the shape that matters. Smooth ports actually flow worse than ports with an even cast surface. It's the protrusions and transitions that matter the most, not the surface.
On the dyno, at the rear wheels, I say about 290 hp and 300 torque with good gas and the timing optimized. This may sound weak, but it is an impressive real world repeatable attainable goal in my opinion. Peak numbers at the crank would be far higher, but driveline loss is huge, and so subjective because of tires, trannys and gears.

same dyno? same operator? theres something wrong. the lower altitude the better, as far as I know. But someone thats smarter than me and has high altitude /dyno experience would be better to answer the question.
