Thanks, but I don't find an adjustment on this switch. I mount on a post on the brake pedal with a clip. No nut or jamb nut. I can't figure out how the thing's even supposed to work. Thanks a again for the reply.

Your new switch is just out of adjustment. Try moving the switch closer to the dash by un-plugging the switch, loosening the jamb nut, and turning it clockwise 4-5 turns, then re-tighten your jamb nut and plug the connector back in. If this doesn't work, try turning the switch in the opposite direction. I had a similar problem on a S-10, and this fixed it.

I do not have back brake lights when I step on the brake. All other lights work: backup, directionals, and taillights. Please advise.

If your turn signals work but your brake lights do not, I would be looking at the actual brake light switch. It may be pressure operated or it may be a mechanical switch near the brake petal. I am not familiar with your particular veheicle. Your brake light has to have a switch and these are the only two types I am familiar with.

When you locate the switch, short out the two wires to see if the lights do come on. If they do, replace the switch.

Normally, in many vehicles, the actual filament of the turn signal is the same filament for the stop lights. Your actual tail lights MAY be in the same envelope (glass enclosure) as your brake filament, which doubles as your turn indicator.

How do I replace the brake light switch on a 1998 Chevy 1500 pickup? Thanks.

I HAVE DONE THIS. NOT A PICNIC. GET A NEW SWITCH, SO YOU KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR. UNDER THE DASH, & AGAINST THE FIREWALL, THERE IS A FACTORY ROUND RETAINER CLIP THAT IS HARD TO REMOVE. WHEN THAT IS OFF, YOU CAN PULL OUT & PUSH UP & WIGGLE TO GET THE SWITCH OUT & UNPLUG IT. ONCE THE NEW SWITCH IS BACK IN PLACE, A HAIRPIN CLIP FROM THE HARDWARE STORE WILL HOLD THE SWITCH IN PLACE. I HOPE YOU HAVE SMALL HANDS. I DON'T.

1996 Chevy Silverado 1500 Starting Problems

Just from what you said it sounds like your vehicle might not be holding its residual pressure which means after you turn a vehicle off, your fuel injection system should hold a certain amount of pressure in the system, but if that pressure drops to fast your vehicle may have a hard time starting. Things to look for when you lose fuel pressure is the fuel pressure regulator may be leaking, fuel pump check valve, leaky fuel injector or they maybe a small leak in one of the fuel lines. I only suggested this cause i had a car with the similar problem.
