If your security light is on try turning the ignition to on position and leave it for 20 minutes and then turn the ignition off and then light should go out and then it should start good luck

There isnt a fuse for the theft system. You need to take the coloum cover off. Should be 3 screws and you will see all the wires in there. The ones you need are three togather. White Black and Yellow. Get the car started and cut the yellow wire. The theft light will come on and stay on but will bypass the theft system. If it is a 2 wire system you will see two little metal strips on the upper side of the key. You have to use a ohm meter and measure the resistance of the strip in there. Its a resistor used to tell the theft computer the key is in there. Anyway find out what the resistance is and buy a resistor from radio shack and look under the steering wheel for the 2 very small guage wires in a yellow cover....NOTE not the air bag wires. Simply cut those wires ( the 2 white ones) and on the set going away from the steering wheel strip the wires and put the resistor one one wire and the other end of it to the other wire....That will disable that system. If its the 2 wire and you have issues getting it simply take the car to a car audio place that does remote starts and for a nominal fee they will do it for you. My records show that it has the 3 wire system.

SOURCE: passlock

While I've never had this issue, the fix is pretty easy:

  1. Turn car to ON position (without starting it)
  2. Leave in that position for 15-20 minutes
  3. Turn off.
  4. Start car.
This issue is with the PASSLOCK system in the car.

1992 Buick lasbre. Bypassed security module . Turn ignition switch to run waited 15 minutes and car still wouldn't run and security light still on.

why not stated the symptoms.
cranks ok, or not. Dead starter?
wont start at all
or starts for 2 seconds but stalls, or ???????

IS this a STOCK security? system?
if your car has security engine cut out, that needs to be fixed
or in rare cases (bypass/modified/hacked)
on most cars only early systems are hackable. (ask why,)

there are many causes. but #1 is , does it crank ok.?
there are many ways for the security systems to fail (and friends)
the shifter PRNDL switch loves to fail. killing cranking, try cranking in neutral, bingo?
then there is the security system. and the funky keys they use.
if real serious, DIY, get the FSM , and see all the tests there for the
sec. modules.
or alldata.com

many old cars 92 the online documents are bad. poor
the FSM is not poor its dead accurte,
buyone, on ebay used, or near nothing.
on old cars, this IS THE BEST advice.....

What wire do I cut to bypass the passlock on my 2004 alero

You Cannot cut any wires to bypass on this system. The passlock security needs to see a valid key in order to have the PCM enable the fuel and Ignition. This system is complex and cannot be bypassed with the cutting of a wire.

Oldsmoble Alero ignition security problem

It doesn't have to be the security. a dead battery won't let the car crank either. With a security problem the car will crank but not start. The security can be reset if the battery is charged and up. Turn the key on ( do'nt crank ) the security light will stay on if it needs to be reset. If it remains on leave the key on for 15 minutes around then it will go out. turn the key off and then turn it right back on, the security light will be on again. Leave the key on till the light goes out again, then turn it off then turn it back on , wait again when it goes out turnthe key off then right back on then crank the engine and it should start. With a scanner the code will be security neweds to be reset. Thia is all anyone can do to reset the security and it's what you were charged $450 for. Following directions.

I have a 2001 olds alero, the car wont start and the security light is flashing

If the previous solution doesn't work, try this:

While the key is in "on" position and your security light is blinking, it is probably your "Passlock" security device acting up. Very common in these years for GM cars. To test if this is it, simply turn your key forward (to "on" position) until light stops blinking and eventually turns off (right around 10 minutes). Then, turn key back off, and then try to restart it. My Alero did this just a few months ago and I learned this trick as I was pricing out a new fuel pump. If this was your problem, I recommend taking it to a remote starter installer and have them by-pass the passlock system permanently. This should cost anywhere from $40-$100, but is much better than a new fuel pump and filter cost.
-note: I recommend not getting it by-passed until it happens a second time (which it may not), just don't forget the temporary fix!

Security Light

First, try checking the switch in the door because you could have a crossed wire. you will have to pull out the button and check the wires on all doors and trunk/boot. In the meantime, I will try to find an answer to your question.
