the two thick wires are for the pump and the other two for the fuel gauge ,check for voltage at the pump if no voltage then follow the wires back to see if their is a connection somewhere ,also check the earth connection if no power in the two wires ,ie one probe onto the earth and the other to a suitable ground on the bodywork ,then continuety

Could I run a electric fuel pump on my 1998 Cadillac deville?

if it did not have an electric fuel before then the installation of an electric pump is a relatively easy process. If you have an electric pump already fitted but it has failed then remove it and install the new pump in its place. Take care to check all wires, fuses and relays and any pressure sensors for correct operation. Remove and blank of the opening for any mechanical pump on the engine
For new installation select an easily accessible place under the vehicle that can be protected from flying rocks and road debris. Run a power wire (red colour) from the run side of the ignition switch to the relay ( to be fitted ) near the battery or in the engine bay. Run this wire through an inline fuse close to the ignition switch to protect the circuit. attach to a coil actuation terminal of the relay.( look at the base of the relay for terminal identification. Run a black wire from the other side of the coil actuation pin on the relay to earth. Normally the same bolt that mounts the relay. Run a red wire capable of carrying 20 amps directly from the battery terminal through an inline fuse ( close to the terminal) to a power pin on the relay. Run another red wire from the outlet power pin on the relay to the electric pump. . Run an earth wire from the pump to earth.
This is a basic electric circuit for the installation of the pump. If there is a requirement for a pressure regulator or pressure sensor to control the pressure or pump operation , that control wire will be connected in series into the wire from the ignition switch so that when the pressure is reached then it breaks the circuit to the relay from the ign. switch and the pump will stop operation until the circuit is again completed. When the ignition switch is off there will be no power for the pump

Fuel pump not running. maybe someone can tell me where the power to the fuel pump is so that i can test the pump to see if it works. or maybe the relay is bad. where would that be? thank you

disconnect plug at pump and put led test light across plug and check for a cicuit (using this method checks for power and earth circuits at same time) if there is a curcuit pump is shot,if no circiut you need to check to see which side is missing,no power check connections and fuses/relays,no earth check connections may be a kill switch aswell

Power to fuel pump relay

Wade sorry to hear your woes, when I have this kind of trouble I virtually start from the beginning. What I would do in your case, is go directly to the fuel pump test the connections on the pump, they may have deteriorated, I wwould discard the existing wires and feed 2 new ones, {one to earth and one to power} Find out if your ignition supplies earth or power when you turn the key before creating a nearby ground. Run the new wire to the relay, this way you eliminate any possible breakdown from the relay to the pump. If this fails it was a small expense. Be sure that the pump is producing the right pressure when it gets hot the seals may not offer the poundage it needs to continue. A pressure test can be done at a mechanic shop with the right tool.
In summary, power from ignition to fuse, to relay, to pump. Finally, this does sound like an earth problem. Battery earth to body and another to engine should be existing too. Good luck, hope this helps.

1999 breeze, no power to the fuel pump and the fuel pump relay seems ok, I wonder what to check next?

THERE IS A SHORT ON YOUR LIVE WIRE,THE EASIAST IS TO GET IT TO A MECHANIC,BUT IF YOU WANNA DO IT URSELF TAKE A TESTER AND TEST THE POWER AND EARTH CABLES FOR LIVE THEN TAKE A LIVE WIRE FROM THE BAT AND CONNECT IT DIRECT TO THE FUEL PUMP WITH A FUSE ON AND TEST,IF THAT SORTS THE PROBLEM OUT GET IT TO A AUTO ELECTRICIAN TO WIRE IT UP CORRECTLY OTHERWISE YOU MIGHT BURN OUT SOMETHING,ALSO HAVE YOU CHECKED ON YOUR POINTS AND CONDENSOR.

Where/ how do i locate the power wire for the fuel pump on my 1996 holden rodeo? i've been told there will be some wires for the guage and some for the pump which lead into tank. Is there a way of...

if my memory is right there is a connector near chassis rail that comes from on top of fuel tank, 2 wire connector this is for pump you can check for power on wires from turning ignition to on position it should power up fuel pump for approx. 5 seconds then stop. will have continuous power while cranking (black with blue trace) other wire is black(earth) this is separate from tank sender unit. are you getting power at fuse check with test light if no power relay is not working.
