Question about 2000 Porsche Boxster

1 Answer

I changed the oil in my 2005 Boxster not at a Porsche dealer. The garage I used is good but did not know how to turn off the "service is due" indicator. It comes on every time I start the car and I have to push down the lever to turn it off. Can it be done without a dealer's help?

I just purchased a 2005 Porsche Boxster with 13000 miles from a Chevy dealer. They supposedly did a basic service before delivering the car. On my way home I noticed a message on the dash that said...

Try this procedure. Porsche can be hit or miss with reset procedures. Sometime a Porsche scan tool is needed.

1. Enter the vehicle and make sure that all doors are closed.

2. Push the odometer reset button while turning the ignition key on.

3. Continue holding down the odometer reset button for approximately 10 seconds until the "Service Reset" message appears in the information center.

4. Release the odometer reset button and press the reset button on the bottom of the wiper stalk.

5. It may take a few attempts with this procedure.

6. If the light is not reset, then a Porsche compatible scan tool will be required to reset it.

Check engine light on?

Is it a manual or auto? Assuming its a manual, is there an ABS light on? If so or if you hace changed the brake pads recently or even had the tires off or rotated, there could be a problem in the brake pad sensor or abs wheel speed sensor.

Check with Porsche service (your closest dealer) for recalls or TSB (Technical Service Bulletins) related to your concern and check the cayman/boxster owners clubs for similar posts and resolutions.

Hope that helps.

63k 1999 boxster have had antifreeze evaporating? Living in Desert. Oil is clean, no leak in head gasket. No spills on garage floor. Fill over flow 6 to 8 oz about every 1500 miles? I'm still learning...

Check that you are not overfilling the cooling system.
Header tanks need to have some space for coolant expansion.
The system coolant level may stabilise at the lower level.

How do I reset the Maintenance due light on a 2005 Boxster

You can't!

You have to go to the dealer to get this done. Also remember that once the dealer has reset the indicator you will be driving for up to 1000 miles before the - - - - - - - resets itself. It takes this time for the computer to analyse typical driving conditions and your driving style both of which affect the next service interval.

Alternatively you could consider purchasing something like this if you are mechanically minded and want do it yourself.
