Antenna doesn't retract when car is off

The car's antenna doesn't retract when the car is off. More of a problem: the antenna makes a whirring noise even when the keys are not in the ignition.

I stopped it myself! just turn off radio and remove the key. Then go to the trunk and remove the cover to the rt. rear of the trunk where the motor is. Then pull the large black wire from the antenna. It just pulls out like a speaker wire but it's larger. It's located at the top of the motor. Be sure to push the antenna all the way back down and then wait a couple of minutes before you plug the connector back in. That stopped it for now but I'm not sure if it would do it again when I turn the radio back on. It's very dark outside and I will try it in the morning. It seems that everything is like a computer and requires a disconnect 1st. and then a reconnect for anything to work now days!!

The antenna is wired to go down when the key is turned off. The motor is probably stripped out. You need to replace the motor at the base of the antenna, or unplug the bad one to make it quit running with the key off

Radio antenna is making a grinding noise

The antenna cable/regulator is usually made out of plastic with tiny slots that engage the antenna motor gear. When worn, they make grinding noises and usually don't retract or extend all the way. There is no quick fix for this; replace the antenna assembly.

My antennae won't retract and makes a whirring noise like it is struggling to go down(93 Cadilla Sedan DeVille)

There are plastic gears in the power antenna motor that strip out over time and when a large load is placed on them. The motor will need to be replaced or you might be able to take it apart and replace just the gears.

1993 Lexus SC400- alternator has been replaced twice but dash lights and headlights continue to flicker especially when breaking. When driving car the first 15 min or so it shakes and makes loud grinding...

First have battery checked at a Interstate battery place or equivelant. All issues point to low voltage. A shorted battery will cause the alternator not to work.

Relay #27 in the box under the hood runs only the power antenna on a 1992. For the future here's the parts guide for everything in your jeep. Page 180 has a picture of what you want to pull.

Power antenna does not go all the way up, does not power retract

Does the motor continue to run even though the mast doesn't retract? Is there a loud 'click - click - click" as it tries to retract and extend or more of a chattering noise? Did you clean and lubricate the spool into which the toothed belt goes when the antenna retracts? Use an all weather grease (white lithium). Did you clean the teeth on the gear that drives the belt? There is a small metal guide where the belt meets the drive gear, sometime this wears and allows the belt to slip on the gear. Pull the giude straight out, then rotate it 180 degress and reinstall.
