Squeek noise on front wheels when hit bump

I have an Audi A4 2004 quattro V6 3L. I hear this squeek noise on both front wheels when I hit a bump. The brakes are supposedly just lately fixed by the dealership when I bought it ( used car). What could be the problem please ? Thank you.

whats does "CV" stand for ? Thank you

  • lapierre1910 Jun 25, 2009

Oh I just remembered, you are talking about the CV joint for front wheel drive cars, but mine is a quattro, does it apply to my type of car as well ? Thank you

Thank you very much. So I will concentrate on the wheel bearings then. Could it be possible that it could be on both wheels, since it seems the squeek comes from both wheels ?

  • lapierre1910 Jun 25, 2009

Yes I will have them ( the dealership) look at the brakes. I bought the car used and eventhough I bought the 2 year warranty with certification, I have had problems having the dealership respect it. I took the car back once and they are supposed to have fixed the brakes. I had an independent mechanic do an summary inspection on the wheels, and he had noticed about the possible bearing problem on the left front wheel. The dealership said it was the suspension something problem. Well you can see the problem. The dealership tries to skip some jobs to save money. Thank you for your time, very appreciated.

The problem could be caused by a wheel bearing squeeling or the cv joint squeeling.

constant velocity- the joints in the front drive axles of front wheel
drive vehicles have a type of joint that allows the axle, or as it is
called, half-shaft, to rotate at a constant and equal speed throughout
    it's range of motion.

  • Matthew Boulden Jun 25, 2009

No, unless you have an all wheel or four wheel drive, the cv joint will not apply. That leave the wheel bearing.

It is possible, but not likely. I would look at the brakes while you have the wheels off also, I understand you have just had them done, but it is something to look at.

When I go over a small bump or any change in the road, I hear a small but incessant squeek. I can not locate the noise but i assume it is coming from the suspension.l David

It is hard to find squeeks, It could be bushings, struts, tierods, balljoints, even engine and transmission mounts. The worst one I found after five other people they said was in the dash. vynil was dry and most everytime you hit a bump it would squeek. I sprayed it down heavily with armorall and cured the squeek. Good luck

When i drive my car on a bad road surface a rattking noise is coming from the front left wheel

Could be a ball joint, could be sway bar bushing. You need to check it out soon, a bad ball joint can cause the wheel to fall off. Typically a bad ball joint will squeek a little when you turn. Sway bar bushings are not so dangerous, they just make annoying noises over bumps.

I rock the vehicle by hand from the passenger side.I can hear a popping noise coming from behind the passenger wheel.would that be a sway bar end link, balljoints ??????????/

sway bar end links are most noticeable when hitting small bumps in rapid sucession but a ball joint will squeek just sitting there pushing on the car, try to grease them they may go quiet for a while but will eventually need replaced

I have a squeek in the front end.

Sway Bar End Link
Common wear out part for the Ford's
Look under the front end you will find a bar that attaches to the frame in the front and to the A frames on each side,
The squeek will turn into a bang at some point, ....replace both and it will feel as if you have a new car.
let me know if I can help with installation.
