Hi...just got reconditioned alternator in my Saab 9-3 2004 model. Since then dashboard info keeps warning that battery isn't charging. However, battery is fine and car going well,mechanic is at a loss

Hi, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

Sounds like you either have a wiring issue or something is defective inside the reman-alternator you bought. Its very common for a reman alternator the have an internal issue. I'd try another alternator first, then you'll know for sure if its alternator or wiring. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website at:

Runs with no problems but battery drains while parked

It should go without saying that it is not possible to provide a diagnosis of your issue without knowing the YEAR, MAKE, and MODEL of your vehicle.
That being said, the four possible causes are:
  1. Trunk light, glove compartment light, or other courtesy lights remaining on when they should be off;
  2. Accessories plugged into the vehicle that are left on or "charging" while the vehicle is off;
  3. A failed diode in the alternator (can be diagnosed by feeling the back of the alternator after the vehicle has been sitting unused for an hour or more... if the back of the alternator is hot after the engine has cooled, replace the alternator).
  4. Deterioration of the battery dielectric due to impurities, known as "sulfation." (Solved by battery replacement.)

Battery light stay on has a new battery and alternator

Dear Sir,
As you said , you have placed new battery and alternator still battery light is on, then there is problem with wire, there are two nos of connection on alternator , one is small pin type socket and other is bolt mounted big, you can check both wire are they proper or not and one thing check belt connection is it proper or not.after that..
1st disconnect small pin socket from alternator and check battery light should not remain on at cluster (dont start engine only put key in 1st position when all light will come without starting the car) if it remain on that means there is problem in that wire. wire may got connected some where with body ground, if light is not showing then go for 2nd check for bolt mounted wire, you can check by multimeter by testing is there power supply is present with multimeter, it should be there. if not please check that wire may got disconnect any where in loom.
If you found both wire are ok then sir please return that alternator and get new one. it will solve problem, any issue please let me know.thanks.

My daughter has a Volvo S40 (2006). The Power System Service Urgent light with a red triangle with an exclamation mark and the Battery sign with plus and minus signs came on. She kept driving and then...

This occurred to me the other day. They thought it was the alternator and battery, but nothing. What was the problem with her car. Please help, I'm going nuts trying to figure this out!

How to replace an alternator on a 2005 ford focus zx4 standard. my car has only 81000 kms on it.. and i believe the alternator is going. my battery wont stay charged. everything in the entire car just goes...

It may just be the battery. If it won't stay charged and is more than 3 years old,it may be a somewhat rare early battery failure. Put the new battery in or charge your old one, and check the voltage across the battery terminals with it running. That should solve the alt issue, if you get 13 or more volts. Call,stop by or got to web site of an Auto Parts Store for a price. The alt can go from $150 to $450 depends on application

1991 Toyota Supra Not starting

its going to be the alt and battery combined..even if you had the alt rebuilt there is no guarantee it tok care of the problem. i would go get a new battery and put in it and see what that does and if the battery lights comes back on then you know the alt is bad

98 Lincoln TC,Cold starts fine ,runs good until warm, then shuts off. No codes,Cranks ok, have spark, PATS ok. No fuel pressure, cant hear fuel pump prime,New Fuel relay. jumped fuel pump - works. I do not hear fuel pump prime up, do not have fuel gauge, but pressing on valve in fuel rail- no pressurized fuel. Fuel regulator seems ok, not leaking / vacuum line dry as a bone. If I let it set for 15 min , it will start up again, but for a few minutes then dies out. If I let it set overnight it starts up perfectly and runs until operating temp is reached then stalls/stumbles, and shuts down. Vacuum is good while cranking, even with no start, Checked Inertia switch in trunk, it is not tripped. I have seen Ford TSB summaries' that mention issues like this , but I am not able to see to description. A point to add, the MAF sensor was cleaned, then I decided to replace it and did not make a difference. I do not have any stored codes, and the PATS is working fine, typical 2 second flash from and once key is inserted a 3 second steady light, then disappears. I have seen the TSB mentioning C103 Connector, it looks fine, I swapped out fuel pump relay with ac relay, still no difference.mention of wires around battery, do not know where to start. in dash service engine light and odometer is normal, seen other posts the say they only have lines, but mine is ok. the start of all of this , I washed engine with regular garden hose, ( not using pressure washer).also in the mean time, rear window defroster stopped working as well, can not say for same reason, but a mention.My problem started after washing engine. this is one of four Panther platform vehicles I owned with exact 4.6l w code engine, which I rinced down before. The only sensor I can think of is Oil pressure , or a corroded wire
