Question about 2001 Volkswagen new Passat

2001 Passat reverse

After it's warmed up and going from Park to Reverse, car is bucking or jerking a lot. Started about a month ago. I would wait with my foot on brake until I could feel it get in gear. Now, it is bucking bad and I almost can't stop it when pressing on brake as hard as I can.

Is there only 1 reverse light on a passat

On the 2001 Volkswagen Passat, there is one reverse tail light (bulb) per side for a total of two reverse tail lights. The following link shows the inside of the 2001 Volkswagen Passat tail light.

Started out "lurching" when driving

I would start by replacing the TPS, throttle position sensor. The TPS is a variable resistor which adjusts as your foot presses the gas pedal. It is on the metal Airhorn and the Airhorn is behind the Aircleaner ductwork under the hood. It is possible to be bad at one side and good in another position.

You should also have a Relay box under the hood. With the Battery disconnected, you can remove the PCM relay and check the terminals and socket for corrosion. Spray WD40 on the parts and terminal holes. The PCM is related to your transmission.

Check a part for Idle control, which is a Solenoid attached to the lower Intake manifold. Sometimes cleaning this part, again WD40, will help it. Do not force the valve into opening by hand when it is still attached to the engine; it will mess up the internals.

Take your car in for a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys, it may reveal the bad part.

Issues when changing gears in a automatic 2001 Volkswagen passat. Car kind of jumps or shakes when changing gears from Park to reverse or to drive. But works fine when changing gears into 4, 3, or 2.

it is bcause the trans shifts opposite diection when going from reverse to drive but i would check mounts where they bolt to trans have seen them with broken bolts
