The compressor may be locked up.
With engine OFF try to turn the front of the a/c compressor pulley.
Then start engine , LOOK to see if inner part of pulley is spinning.Turn a/c on , inner part should start and stop.(cycle) If any of this does not happen get a/c repaired.

Screaming noise from ac no cold air

It sounds to me that your belt or tensioner is worn, if the noise goes away when the ac is off then it is just the belt slipping, it takes a lot of power to run the compressor and if the belt is worn it most likely slipping on the pully when you engage the clutch.

In severe cold weather my 04 coupe "screams" a

When you hear this scream, it is caused by the altenator working. The belt is loose. If you have a serpentine belt then the belt tensioner is weak. If the altenator has it's own belt , then there is an adjustment bolt or pulley to tighten the belt.

More than likely you have a leak in your system and do not have enough pressure. This will activate the low pressure switch to protect the compressor from damage due to lack of lubrication, which is supplied by the refrigerant which carries the lubricant.. Rick.

When i start the car and turn the steering wheel it produces a loud screaming sound for about 5 minutes then it is fine

hi from uk the squeal you hear is mst probably the power steer pumpdrive belt that is slack ? however considering age of vehicle it might be worth considering renewing this belt and also the alternator belt too asthese belts do deteriate over time 8yrs? and with winter approaching you would not want one of these belts to fail in freeze conditions?? also when did you check your tyre pressures and condition (honest now ? ) as under inflated tyres especially in cold will put undue load on p/steer untill oil has flowed thro pump and warmed ? hope this is helpful and consider advice given best wishes

Driver air cool, passenger air warm or hot

Are you sure you checked the temp door ?Is it hot air ,like the heater?First check the ac compressor to see if it is actually turning, then check the large ac lines near the firewall near the windshield to see if they are cold, and sweating. If they are that rules out freon problem. The temp door might not be moving, check all selections on ac control and watch is door and see if one of them doesn`t move.If one door doesn`t move then it is the one you need to fix,if I can help, let me know.roniecon@gmail.com
