Question about 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Open Question

Chevy Silverado 2000 2wd won't start.

I have had a Brake Malfunction light on it has been flashing along with a warning ping on the truck. The check engine light is on..When I plug my code reader in to the port I get no read...I tried a different reader and no info..The horn fuse has been blowing after only a couple of honks if not one..I changed that today to try and see if I could get a read from the port in case it was linked some way and when doing that..I pulled out the larger 60 AMP fuse for the ABS..look at it..and plugged that back in when it looked fine....the ABS light came on inside and stayed on till I turned the car off and cranked it back up..then..I turned it off..and came back 15 minutes later to leave and the truck would not start...just got a ticking like a drained battery. After that I hooked up another car to jump..but no luck...Now when I turn the key all I get is the maint req light. I tried turning the lights on but no luck here either. I THINK there is probably a short..where to start..So on top of that..about an hour later..my Prius killed..but thats another matter entirely..great day...

Ok...what a GOOFY bunch of circumstances.  I play with some FUSES...and then the truck won't start..I start thinking battery issue... but I have an electrical engineer standing next to me..albeit one that doesnt speak english..and he say not the battery..yada yada..of course later I smell the rotten eggs and I realize..it is the battery..so got a new battery..car starts..moral to that story..don't trust someone's advice about electrical stuff no matter how much they know..if they dont work on cars much.. THAT along with the fact I had been playing with fuses led me down the wrong path..

Also..on the OBD-II port(scuse me if I named it wrong....the diagnostic port) I finally changed a cigarette lighter fuse that was blown and walla! that fixed it..showed no codes...SO....I still have the problem of the Brake Malfunction light flashing and giving me a PING when I go over 5 miles an hour.
That showed up when my AUTOLAMPS quit working..so I am PRETTY SURE those are related..maybe its another FUSE...I am about to run out and pull some more and check em...I have some needle nose pliers which should make it easier..that friggin fuse puller that comes in the fuse box SUX.

I havent tried the horn much..I wonder if having gotten that blown cigarette lighter fuse if that will have solved it..I think the horn fuse may blow to let you know the port is not functioning..but what do I know..haha.I will check that too.

its amazing how pulling the parking brake stopped that godawful pinging...it also restored my autolamps and got the brake malfunction light to stop flashing..apparently I had nudged the emergency brake just enough to make it warn...but...it gave no noticeable drag on the car...

SOURCE: reset maint req

Reset - step 1 turn the key to the 'on' position. using the trip meter button, toggle the lcd until 'ODO' is displayed. step 2 turn the key off. now, push and hold the trip meter button. while holding the trip meter button, turn the key to 'on'. step 3 while you continue to hold the trip meter button, you will see on the lcd disply five (5) small dashes and they will begin to 'count down' rather quickly. step 4 continue holding the trip meter button and once all the dashes have been cleared, your lcd will display six zeros (000000) - release the trip meter button now - and then the lcd will display 'ODO' and your current mileage. at this time, your 'maintenance required'/oil change light has been reset.

SOURCE: 2003 Chevy S10 won't start

Are you sure its the starter? did you try it in neutral? could be park neutral switch, or ignition switch, or if its a standard shift maybe it has a switch on clutch that it has to be depressed to start and its bad. As far as jump starting you cross the maine or big post on starter to small or little post on starter to do that, on a v6 starter it on the right side under exhaust manafold, and i think its on the same side on a 4 cyl.

Have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . If the check engine light starts flashing , park it . The flashing check engine light is telling you there is a catalytic converter damaging miss fire happening . An they can be damaged very easy .

Yes it may be the wires are shorting or its actually the problem with instrument cluster.
Also get the vehicle scanned for any error codes stored in computer this will confirm whether is short circuit issue or actual problem:------

Not sure, but I've heard a bad hazard switch can cause strange problems.
Also, if your truck has a body control module that controls interior and lights, that may be your problem, too. Good luck.

The brake warning light in the IP is always on in my 1999 Chevy Silverado is always on. Any ideas what the concern might be?

Hi:
Your vehicle has a dual brake system, and the light usually indicates that one system has failed. First thing to check is your brake fluid level. If the front or back of the reservoir is low or empty, you have a brake system leak. check the insides of all 4 wheels to look for possible fluid leakage, as well as any other areas under your vehicle where brake lines run. My truck had a rear brake line rust thru, and it caused the same problem.

Good luck finding the problem!

Park brake light flashes 10 times. For 1989 Chevy 1500 pickup. What does this mean?

This truck probably has Rear Wheel Anti-Lock (RWAL) brakes. There is a small black module near master cylinder that is the brain for this system. There are ways to check for diagnostic trouble codes in this system. Once you have any codes set, diagnosis can be fairly simple. PROCEDURE:
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) 's can be displayed by jumping terminals "A" and "H" of the Data Link Connector and observing the flashing of the "BRAKE" warning light. This should only be done when the brake lamp is "ON".
The terminals must be jumped for about 20 seconds before the code will begin to flash. Count the number of short flashes starting from the long flash. Include the long flash as a count. Sometimes the first count sequence will be short. However, subsequent flashes will be accurate. If there is more than one failure, only the first recognized code will be retained and flashed.

NOTES:
DTC's 6, 9 and 10 will only turn the "BRAKE" lamp on while the fault exists. These are soft codes faults and can only be read with the Tech 1 scan tool.
Do not jump terminals "A" to "H" if the "BRAKE" lamp is not on. Jumping the terminals with the "BRAKE" lamp off will set a false DTC 9. This will turn the "BRAKE" lamp on and disable the antilock system.

2000 chevy 1500 4 wheel drive electronic shift runs fine then speedo starts to go erratic then stops working then the brake warning light comes on then the abs light comes on then the transmission shifts...

Check your battery terminal connections. Because so much of these trucks are computer controlled a bad connection at the battery will cause alot of electrical bugs. I had to replace my transmission about a year ago. Just prior to having that done my speedo was going crazy at times. The brake warning light usually means you have one or more calipers that need to be replaced. Start with the battery terminal connections.
