Question about 1998 BMW 3 Series

My A/C Control Unit keeps going on and off. I took it to auto shop, they said I would have to replace whole unit. Is there a part in the A/C Control Unit you can fix before spending a great sum of money?

Traction control modules

you can fix the the units. you just need to open them up and replace the faulty parts in side as long as the control chip is not damaged. there are a few capacitors inside that would need to be replaced. and you need the special tool to open the units up. easy fix. its usually just one unit failed other one comes out in sympathy but they are both linked., so one one fails they both do.

REplace the alternator with a genuine bosch replacement unit ,you have a warning light control fault with the alternator but in all honesty it could keep going like this another 20/30.000 miles with no problems .You know the old saying a little knowledge ?? cannot remember the rest but their you go --its my age you know --

A/c control unit fuse keep blowing what is wrong

The problem may be a short in the system. A blown fuse is an indication of somthing in the control unit that is wanting to make it burn out so instead it burns out the fuse as a saftey measure instead of the control unit. A short can be really hard to trace at times, what you may want to do is take it to your nearest auto repair shop for an electrical diagnosis. Also if you have a multimeter you yourself can try and find the short if you know enough about electrical devices. If you'r looking for a repair shop, try Pep Boys, they usually do very good work and would definetly be able to take a look at that for you.

Hope This Helps!

If the cable on the driver's door window regulator breaks but the motor is still good do you have to replace the whole regulator as a unit or can you just replace the cable?

You would have to replace the whole regulator. The motor itself would not have to be replaced. But it might not hurt to replace them as a unit since it would be apart already. It is a little more expensive to do this but you would have a warranty then. If you are having it repaired at a shop, and you replace the regulator only, 2 weeks down the road and the motor goes out, your going to have to pay labor again for basically the same job. My advice is, if you can afford too, replace it as a whole unit. If not, replace just the regulator and hope the motor doesn't go bad.

The gas guage does not work on my '97 S10 pickup (it shows about 3/4 tank.) Is this something I can fix myself ? If so, what parts do I need and what will it cost, approx? If NOT, how much will it cost to...

The level sensor in the tank has gone bad. You can buy a fuel sending unit for about $100 (you used to have to replaced the whole tanks for hundreds of dollars, but they had so many issues they started selling the sensors on their own).

You can fix it on your own, but you're going to want the tank to be pretty much empty before hand.

Here is an example of replacing one on a S-10 blazer. Should be similar for your truck:

Replacing indicator light 96 honda accord

It is a sealed unit. Either it will unplug from the back and you will maybe have to twist it a little..gently. Or you will have to replace the whole unit..go to your local auto parts store and go to the parts counter and ask that good looking guy or girl behind there for assistance..Peace
