Question about 1998 Ford Taurus
I own a 1998 and had the same problem when the car was about three years old I found out that it was my drivers door that was causing the problem.
There is a small rotating style switch just behind the door lock (key cylinder) and I removed it cleaned it with tuner cleaner and it was fine for about a year. to remove it was a real pain you have to rip apart the whole door and crame your arm into a small space not my idea of a fun time. The switchs are costly and you may find that you could do one then have to do all four. I just removed the bulbs and sucked it up. Have you noticed if the dash light tells you the door is open?

The dimmer switch below the steering on the left side of the driver should be rolled to the lower side and the problem will be solved
