SOURCE: cam timing

Firstly with this engine being identified as an interference engine, I will not accept any responsibility if your engine gets damaged. You are free to take or leave this advice and the responsibility will be entirely yours.

Engine codes: D2H, D6A, D6B, D6D, DDZ, DKZ, DFZ.
Covering years 1989 to 1997.

  • Turn the crankshaft in a clockwise direction to about 10.00 o'clock on the mark on the camshaft sprocket. Good tip here, apply tippex to the sprocket mark.
  • Now slowly continue to turn the crankshaft and with the timing pin feel for the locating hole behind the camshaft sprocket.
  • You will find the camshaft location hole at about 8.00 o'clock.
  • When you have located the the locating hole behind the camshaft sprocket, insert the timing pin.
  • Now insert the timing pin in the crankshaft pulley.
  • You will find the crankshaft pulley location hole behind the sprocket at about 10.30 o'clock.
  • When both timing pins are in their locating holes, the top and bottom of the engine is in-line.
  • This information is only to set the engine up and not to change the timing belt.
  • I would advise that on these engines you change the timing belts at 60,000 miles or every 3 years which ever comes first. If for any reason the timing belt gets contaminated, change the timing belt.
Take care.

SOURCE: what are the timing gear specifications for 1992

manualy turn the engine over to the first cylinder. (place screwdriver in cylinder through spark plug hole) when the pistion is all the way up that is top of cylinder #1 . at this point ther should be marks on the gears and on the block that align. if not than mark them your self with a paint marker. now loosen the tensioner to remove belt, and install new belt. be careful that all marks are still aligned that is a zero clerance engine. meaning that being one tooth off will colaps a valve.

SOURCE: timing marks on peugeot 1.9 tdi

there is a few ways of doing thes the easiest way being using locking pins
you bont have to go and buy a set of locking pins you can use 3 m8 (13mm headded) bolts and a 5mm allen key

there is a hole in the cam pully and 2 holes in the injection pump pully and 1 in the fly wheel

i suggest you lock the fly wheel up first
the hole is located under the starter motor on the front of the block
insert the 5mm allen key and get someone to turn the crank pully clockwise until allen key engages into the fly wheel

the hole in the cam should be at about 25 past
(if it is at 10 to then you neet to remove the pin from the fly wheel and turn the crank 1 full turn)

when the hole is inthe right place you can insert a m8 bolt and wind it in to the head

with this now lined up you should be able to fit the other 2 m8 bolts into the injector pump pully

with this now done your 1.9 tdi engine is timed up

I need cam timing settings for a volvo s40 2006

The timing marks on the cam gears align with the timing marks in the rear timing cover. The timing mark on the crank gear aligns with the timing mark on the oil pump assembly.
The tensioner is set by rotating the tensioner clockwise until the holes in the tabs on the left side of the tensioner are aligned, then tighten the center bolt.

How to set timming belt, cant find mark for crankshaft 3.0L

Timing belt removed, static timing was not set before removing timing belt.

[Set Static Timing:
No.1 piston is brought up to TDC before removing timing belt.

Cam gear has a punchmark on face of gear, and this mark aligns with one single tooth. There is a matching punchmark on the Timing Belt Rear Upper Cover.

Facing the cam gear, the mark is to the upper right. There is an 'egg shape' of the timing belt upper rear cover, in this spot. This punchmark is in that 'egg shape', and is close to a bolt hole. The cam gear mark lines up with the Timing Belt Rear Upper Cover, mark.

The crankshaft gear has a punchmark on the face. It lines up with one single tooth. There is a corresponding punchmark on the lower right side. An alignment mark)

Should be a round punchmark on the face of the crankshaft gear. It lines up with a single tooth. Wipe the gear clean, use a little carb cleaner. (NO flames, or sparks nearby, well ventilated area)

Barring you cannot find the crankshaft mark, find the camshaft alignment marks, make sure they are aligned with the alignment, (Punchmark), on the Timing Upper Rear Cover.

Count the teeth in the timing belt. There should be 133 teeth on the belt.

There is 43 teeth in-between the timing mark of the camshaft, and the timing mark on the crankshaft.

(43 teeth in-between the Right Side Camshaft mark to crankshaft mark, 43 teeth in-between the Left Side Camshaft mark to crankshaft mark)

There should be 40 teeth in-between the two cam gears.

Setting the timing in a 1993 subaru justy

If you are talking of the rubber timing belt setting then rotate the cam gear till the timing mark (small hole) on the camshaft gear aligns with the mark on the plastic cover behind it. Mark is on top of plastic cover (12 'o' clock).
Rotate the crank till the timing mark (groove, not the one for the crankshaft woodruff key) on crankshaft gear is aligned with the mark on the bottom of the plastic cover behind it. (6 'o' clock).
Tighten tensioner against timing belt rotate engine a few times make sure alignment of timing marks remain.
